Not really a bold statement from him. Turning the team around just means that we stop sucking and missing playoffs. We're already trending into the playoffs with the current superstars aging and the new classes (like our core) are naturally gonna get into their prime.

Nah he wasn’t talking about just maintaining the status quo, he was talking about delivering on a free agent target.

I think he'll deliver so it's moot. Otherwise Jerry West's clippers contract should be up by then and he should come finish it where it began.

Yeah, Magic is too smart for that... He knows he's going to deliver otherwise he wouldn't have said it.

That said, I still think he steps aside next season, or the season after, depending on if we win a championship... He's not in this for the long run.

Success is doing the best you can sometimes.

There are many reasons why free agents may not want to come or they decide to come which a GM has no control of.

Lebron might be fickle, GSW is stacked up and many want to go there.

Success might just mean keeping the young core together.
getting Rid of Mosgof's contract and Russell
Not signing long term bad contracts.
If he can some how get rid of Deng's contract.
Pick up Kawahi next summer and get some good short term role players who can play defense, Rebound and put the ball in the hole.

The only thing I might like is letting Randle walk for nothing. If that happens then he should have been traded and that was a Rob and Magic mistake. Time will tell.

Question is PG this year a good fit with a Kawahi next year creating good chemistry with these young guys?

Or should we just try to wait till next year and just add some good role players if Lebron is not coming.

I've always found these kind of promises to be idiotic. Not only it shifts the focus from the team to outside factors which there is no control over, but also you are basically saying to your coach and your players that they are useless, so unless you are able to sign free agents, the team won't have a nick of a chance to contend. Good job following Jimmy's footsteps.

Hard to say if it's just another instance of a big mouth coming with that big smile, or if he is in the know....

Like maybe ESPN sent him an invite to PG13's homecoming party wink wink

Only an idiot would make that comment without knowing he has one or two FAs locked up.

A smarter man would make that comment knowing he will deliver to make himself look even better.

I am more interested in the "its going to be a 2 summer thing" comment.

That to me means, no Lebron. PG now and Kawhi next summer. I am ok with that. It gives our kids more time to mature.

I read it that way initially as well, but then I thought he just said two to avoid the tampering accusations. pretty sure he already has Lebron and PG locked up.

Well.....we have this cap-space to help bolster the existing team. It's only recently that all this "super team" talk started up. Magic was brought in to get a star or two to throw this team back into contention. With a little 'back-peddling' and slick wording, he can turn his comments into that. If Magic and Rob can't deliver the next two years....then I think they should go. I wanted Jim gone like nobody's biz, and it'll be the same if Magic/Rob get nobody either.

But I do agree with you about 90%. Why bring it up? Why throw shade at the current squad? Why do ANYTHING that Jim did?

If he does strike out.. and I don't think he will, but if he does, can we just hire a normal progressive-thinking basketball person?

You know, like someone who isn't fancied on signing the best player in the league and just growing the team?

God yes. Honestly, I kind of hope Magic only sees this as like a two to theee year job anyway, and isn't planning on being here for the long haul.

Probably a good idea to stop pretending like growing naturally with the same group every year will get you rings.
