Should the lakers sign jahil okafor?

He is still unsigned. Which for a #3 pick overall from a few years ago, is mindblowing!
Lakers have McGee at center, and then nothing else certain. You can count on McGee for about 15-20 mins a game. But after that? It’s iffy.
What would be the downside to signing okafor to a 1 year min deal?
Just a few years ago he was the 3rd pick, and a portion of laker fans wanted him at 2. I just don’t see the harm in signing him to a one year min deal. If he shows something in the10-15 mins a night he gets, cool. If not, he is gone. This guy had serious potential, and now that he is on the verge of busting out of the nba, maybe he puts his head together and puts in 100% effort on both sides of the floor.
There just isn’t any downside that I can see? There is going to be so many distractions, that anything having to do with him will be the last thing on peoples mind.
What do you think?

No part of what the Lakers are doing fits Okafor at center. I'd much sooner get Monroe if we are hurting for a center.

Monroe is intersting. He's always been very consistent in what he does. He reminds me of pre-knee injury David West in a few ways. He can hit the jumper out to 20', he rebounds well and he's smart offensively. Defense has been problematic but then again has he played with teams that emphasize it. I'd take him over McGee
Okafor is reminding me of an early career Beasley..... talent is there but the head isn't. Beasley has somehow turned it around to some degree but that typically isn't the case for these types. I'd pass on him. We don't need a higher degree of difficulty this year.

Agree....we're gonna be developing our core....integrating with Lebron, and dealing with a pack of head-cases as it is. Already walking the fine line of developing VS Win now. I think we have a full cup of challenges this season. Okafor's upside just doesn't justify the additional BS, in my opinion. I mean, the guy might be decent....but little else. No D. Wrong style of play.
Last year....sure. Not now

No way, this guy can't neither shoot nor play any defense, so he is totally useless in today's basketball. If it was the 80s, 90s and early 00s, maybe.

Tough to argue with a vet min deal but I don’t see his style of play fitting in today... Monroe went from a near max player to a vet min player in two years... Amazing how the game has changed... I still think we should have signed Boogie at that price...
Lakeshow Baby...

No point signing him to the min. If BRK wasnt even willing to bother to give him an extended tryout during their lost season last year, how the heck is he gonna figure to be a positive on our playoff chasing team next year.
If we wanted a slow plodder we woulda signed BroLo first. Hell Noel was another realistic option too. At this point even Monroe might be more useful due to being a bit smaller thus faster than Jah.
Just about the only way i'd accept him is he's willing to slave away in the DLeague to prove himself worthy of a call up. Maybe even a 2 way contract if he shows improvement and commitment on D. But a guaranteed contract, nah.

This poll is completely not what I expected
Is okafor Anthony Bennett 2.0? Out of the league quick?
I figured the poll would be the other way!

Real question is “who” wanted Porzingus? I was 100% on the Russell bandwagon, which was a better pick but not the right pick...
I wonder how many people would have taken Porzingus...

If we were searching for a backup, then maybe Okafor is a worthwhile pickup, but as of this day, all he can claim to is being a former number 3 pick. All the problems of why he wasn't picked over Russell has not changed.
I'd rather get Monroe.

I really liked Porzingus, and I told all my friends we should draft him that year. I'm gonna be 1000% honest though: I woulda got cold feet and drafted Russell.
All kind of a wash IMO given injuries, attitude, talent and all that. Don't think any of them will ever really leave a mark in the NBA. At best, Porzingus will be some sort of trivia question...as the guy that really led the 7' 3" big-man 3-point game. But everyone will say the other guy......the guy who gets drafted in 3-4 years and actually plays and leaves a mark. The guy that "average-joe" nba fan remembers 20 years from now.

A guy who can’t protect the rim, can’t ever even come close to defending in space, can’t realibly spread the floor, has never shown to be a hard worker, and who’s one good skill, post scoring, is no where close enough for the lakers to adjust their entire system to accommodate....yeah...there’s a reason this guy remains unsigned. He’s not worth a roster spot.
Some team may throw a training camp invite his way, i imagine he’ll go overseas for guaranteed money before he settles for a training camp spot with no guarantee.

Terrible fit for the way the Lakers are going to want to play.
