In defense of the Lakers roster and future

Post#1 » by what would jack bauer do? » Sat Aug 25, 2018 6:16 pm

The haters really got me going this summer. Especially Frye's comments that the young players are in for a rude awakening playing with Lebron. So this thread is just to point out the things Lakers got going for them.

The landscape of the NBA will be vastly different next summer. Guys like Durant and Curry will be on the wrong side of 30 (both 31). Draymond IMO has already declined (watch video of him getting blocked by the rim in the playoffs, actually reminds me of Clarence Weatherspoon's rapid disappearance before age 30).

We all know Steph and Durant will be able to score for years more, but defense is always the first to go. Look at Lebron this last year, he missed so many weakside help opportunities and as documented by wyndhorst he was walking 73% of games. Where in the past Lebron was the human safety net and instantly made teams elite defensively. (Don't get me wrong Lebron at age 34 is still better than the entire league)

Anyways my point is the superstars of last year are on the decline and a new generation is rapidly rising. The landscape is changing. The Lakers are in prime position with guys likely to become good to great two way players and that are still under 24. Everyone on our squad prides themselves on the defensive played this last year. We were 10th and 11th defensively in the league in the two most important categories and that was without a vet superstar to lead us.

The beauty of our situation is everyone the squad will play all out on defense compared to Lebron's past teams. They're hungry for wins not the spotlight. LeBron's past squads dealt with more ego's and guys that wanted the ball all the time. Everyone is trying to throw shade on Lonzo, but he was THE BEST defensive point guard (drpm of pg's that played 26mins) in the league AS A ROOKIE. Ingram is a two way star still growing, but is one of the most technical players with his passing vision, precision, and ability to seek contact with his weight and still knock defenders out of position. Hart imo is not just a role player he's a two way stud. Kuzma is perfectly built for this era and if he gets better defensively it's game over. Honestly, all of our draft picks are legit to develop to be more than just a guy in the league.

Lebron, didn't just come to LA for his business and family. He said himself he already knows who can play in the league. He saw an opportunity to join a squad that was damn good defensively when healthy with young developing players and a sh** ton of cap space. You think the Lakers refused to trade Ingram and Kuzma by mistake? Nah Magic, Rob, and Lebron just have better vision than everyone else.

Wouldn't think our roster needed any defending... Now, or for the future...

Haters got in someones head...

Lol nah, maybe i titled that wrong, more of a nod on why I think this squad would've won 10+ games compared to last season even without Lebron. Their defense.

The internal improvement of our young guys, their defense, and Lebron is gonna make our squad an elite team without much struggle to gel together.
