Open roster spot

Now that Deng is free, the Lakers have an open roster spot
14 guaranteed contracts:
Ball/Rondo/Bonga
KCP/Hart/Svi
Ingram/Stephenson
Lebron/Kuzma/Beasley
McGee/Zubac/Wagner
2 two-way contracts:
Caruso (PG) and Wear (PF)
3 camp invites (Exhibit 10 contracts):
Berry II (PG), Carroll (SF) and Williams (PF)
What sort of player do we all think deserves a look?
I'm thinking Brandon Wright could be a solid candidate to be our fourth center

I'd wait a while longer and assess options around the trade deadline. If Hart proves to be outplaying KCP, we can also do a 2 for 1 trade with his large expiring salary.

I'm not sure moving KCP, a prototypical LeBronite 3 and D guy, two months before the end of the regular season would be a good move.
If anything, we might be looking to stock up on those sorts of players

If Hart is drawing 35mpg and we need some big man depth, KCP would be the logical choice to go because his skill set would be very well in demand elsewhere too.

and what if hart gets injured in the playoff hunt?
that'd be quite the egg on face moment

We can still slide Lance, Ingram or Svi into that role, bump LeBron to 3 and start Kuz at 4.

I definitely agree with waiting for the annual mid-season fire sales.

can we sign another unguaranteed contract (ala Yi/Bogut from before) and then waive them by December time?

I value him for what he's worth but you have to go give something to get something unless you are trading with Sacramento.

Roster is essentially set... FO will be very opportunistic with all the expiring, young pieces & draft picks... It will get interesting if Toronto, Minny, Portland or New Orleans struggle out of the gate & decide to blow it up and go young...
We are in a great spot... Magic & Pelinka have cleaned up the books...
Lakeshow Baby...

Find a promising DLeague big and hope he goes all Whiteside
Every other position is pretty much 3 deep

I’d gamble that remaining spot (if enough money etc) on Noah’s defense. He could be a huge pickup if we’re lucky.

Noah’s def worth a roster spot and the minimum. There’s still a need for veteran seven-footers who can play D against certain matchups. Even Golden State abides by this. Noah and Javale can fill that Zaza/Bogut role.

Don't the Lakers need to get KCP's consent for him to be traded since he will be early bird qualified playing on a 1 year deal?
As for the open roster spot, I don't think the Deng buyout changes anything for the FO. They probably have always known it would happen and were just waiting for September 1 to do it for stretching purposes.
