Kawhi or 40yo Kobe

Post#1 » by Kilroy » Sun Sep 9, 2018 4:05 pm

This is normally the kind of thread I cringe at... But the new statement by shaq, along with perhaps an unusually strong cup of espresso this morning, had me wondering...
As a Laker fan, would you rather go all in to get Kawhi next summer, or would you rather give Kobe his spot to switch off with Lance Stephenson?

Honestly, the way the team is set up now, it'd almost be perfect for a Kobe return, especially if we got Davis.

Stephenson is already one of the best defenders in the league at the presumed position Kobe would be playing, so Kobe wouldn't be asked to carry that load and IMO, Kobe's probably a better offensive threat even at his age than Kawhi. And if we did get Kawhi, Lance wouldn't see much useage.

Personally... If we can get AD, I might be on the phone begging Kobe to come back like Shaq said for 10-15mpg...

There would be nothing more "LAKERS" than that.

I see you've moved to Cali.

But seriously the worst thing in sports is an athlete who's mentally the MVP but physically done. Kobe is done. He took that decision himself 2 months into his last season. Lakers handled it perfectly by ringing in changes right after he left so adding him back into the mix even in a non playing capacity adds serious instability. We don't want that happening after riding out the worst of the storm.

Kawhi might not be the player he was but even otherwise theres other players out there who'd take max money to play in LA alongside LeBron James.

Actually, I'm sitting in what appears to be a monsoon in the lone star state right now, but soon...

I dunno... Danny posted a clip of Kobe getting after Harden that looked recent. I think it was a drew league game?... Kobe was having his way.

I mean, if he is in fact physically done, it's a moot point. It just won't happen.
But if that clip was an accurate portrayal of what he could do for limited minutes a game, then it becomes an interesting scenario...

Like I said though, not as a max contract guy... I'm implying that we'd use the major cap space on a legit 40 min player... Kind of hoping for a Towns scenario to open up or pipe dream Davis...

But for a limited minutes guy splitting time with a defensive player like Lance... Maybe it makes some sense.

I'm sure that footage was from the lockout season. Kobe hasn't played basketball anywhere since retriement and he said he doesn't want to even in the big3 league.

If that's true then I guess I assumed all this hype about Kobe coming back was because they all knew he could still play. If he truly hasn't kept in playing shape, I can't see him playing again. It's too hard to get back in shape at his age.

Does anyone have any recent footage of Kobe playing?

Sorry bro... But in my defense, you do look a little like Danny. Especially around the eyes. :-o :D

And my bad again... I went back and found the source of that video and it was from 2011... When it was originally posted, I just looked at the date of the article it came from which was from 2018. Blinded by whishfull thinking I guess.

So basically the entire premise of this thread is flawed.
