Thar... She blows...
It's been quite obvious these first three games. The defense is quite the mess.
Rotations are slow, jumpers are open, huge mix-ups in communication, everyone can't play defense without fouling, teams hunting switches and we're handing it to them on a silver platter...
And on top, even when we play good defense and force a tough shot, teams have been making heavily contested shots because they're already in a good rhythm.
Kids are saying the right things, Luke is saying the right things, what's going on? We've regressed tremendously since last season. How are we gonna fix this?

Re: Defense
One thing for sure... It wasn't because we lost Randle...
LeBron is saving himself for Offense. KCP seems to take a while to engage on both ends of the floor. Hart has never been terribly good defensively. Ingram has been pretty good but Kuz is about the same as last season, which is pretty bad... McGee has been playing well, but as good as he is at blocking shots, he doesn't seem that great on switches or PnR defense...
At this point, Ingram may be our best perimeter defender, but that's not saying a whole lot. Ball is great at interior D, but hasn't been that great altering 3s so far.
Our biggest issue is perimeter D... Until we find a wing that can lock down multiple positions and alter shots at the arc, we're not going to be too good Defensively. I think Ingram can get close eventually, but he needs more time.
Kuz would be a better fit for us if he focused on being a 3 and D guy for us... He can do it but he's clearly focusing on other stuff now.
Honestly, I'm a little disappointed how disinclined LeBron is to play D... It's always going to be tough to win the close games when your best player tunes out on that end of the court.

Re: Defense
Think our biggest problem on defense is we had no backup center till Johnathan Williams was forced in the lineup. Defense went to shambles every time McGee was off the floor.
Lebron defense lacks effort. Rarely go for a block or steal.
Lonzo and Hart should start. Hart defense has been a game changer. Lakers need Lonzo versatility if they going to switch everything.
