https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/251930/Lakers-Saving-Picks-Top-Young-Players-For-Anthony-Davis-Trade
"Here's the line they have to walk: they're not going to give away picks and their top young players in some deal that makes them incrementally better this season because they have to save all those assets for Anthony Davis, a big trade this summer either pre or post free agency," said Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Lakers signed Tyson Chandler after his buyout and have also pursued Trevor Ariza.
"The absolute dream scenario, people talk about (how) they can trade for Anthony Davis or sign a free agent. The dream scenario is they do both."
Lowe also talked about the goal is to sign a free agent first using their cap space and then use their remaining assets to trade for Davis.
My feeling is if a plan this huge is out there in the streets already, it has almost Zero chance of happening...
You just can't say "We're going to sign Kawhi, and then trade for AD" and expect the league to get out of your way and let you do it... Not if you're the Lakers.
Even if it's obvious that's what you want to happen.

I think another team will be willing to make an offer that beats the Lakers' offer, regardless of what is put out there about Anthony Davis' future plans. More teams are ignoring superstars' alleged future plans. OKC traded for Paul George, Toronto traded for Kawhi Leonard, and Philly traded for Jimmy Butler.
I don't think the threshold is as high as people think it is. I've said it a lot, but the Lakers' young guys just haven't really shown that much star potential. I think a high-lottery pick would beat out any of the Lakers' assets, because at least you get 4 years on a cheap salary before you have to make a decision on that player.

Ball and Ingram would be needed to match salaries in a Davis trade.

Until AD asks out, it is pointless to even mull a trade for him.

I agree. No point wasting assets, especially when good players will become available in the buyout market.

I'd go all in for him before he gets traded elsewhere.

Thx. I don't understand why both trade machines say it works though?

i think it's other teams gm's feeding woj this just to try and throw a wrinkle in whatever plan they think the lakers have

Not sure why this is news worthy, this has always been the plan since we missed on signing a second star. Goal is to sign a FA, then try and trade 3 of our 4 young core for AD. Most likely will be BI, Kuz, and Hart.. leaving us with Zo.
But with all the FAs this summer apparently already calling their shots ie Kawhi going to clips (no interest in lakers apparently) Jimmy Butler in philly, and KD wrote a damn OP ed why he wont sign w Bron... Klay and his dad have said over and over hes not leaving.. that is pretty much all the FA this summer. So it wouldn't surprise me - at all- if Maginka sees that theres already no FA left to sign, thus they may make the move to trade core NOW while Bron is still in first year.
No matter what, Maginka is forced to use their cap this summer. If they strike out 2 summers in a row on using cap on a second star, they'll have to use it in trades or securing a better supporting cast cause BI will be coming off his rookie deal and need to be given $.. or traded.

No. Both him and his dad keep saying hes staying. If anyone leaves from that core it's big mouth. He fell into a perfect spot in GSW offense. Not sure too many offenses will have the patience for a loud mouth 6'6 center..

KCP will need to be renounced to create cap to sign a free agent. Can’t use him or anyone else on an expiring deal since they’ll all be renounced to sign a free agent.

Looking at the numbers, I don't see a way to get enough salary to trade anytime before next Dec. 15th if the trade deadline passes without a deal. Ideally, LAL would sign a max free agent, then trade for AD on Dec. 15th when FA can be traded, but if he declines the supermax this summer, everyone will be gunning for him. Might be better to see if you can swing a trade before the deadline, and then fill in with other lesser FA. I think Kuz is good enough to be a number 3 on a championship roster.

Yes you do this trade everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. Who cares what other teams offer, no one thought that Cousins could be traded for the package he was traded for. Same with Pail George. I’d try my hardest to hold onto Kuzma and trade Ingram, Ball, whatever else and 2 first round picks for Davis. Having Davis and James on the same team would almost be unfair, especially with the chance to sign Durant too? Insane.

Considering Davis isnt a free agent til 2020, not exactly the vote of confidence for the youngsters, specially those not named Ball, whom Lebron has continually praised.

True... But I mean, of course... And even Ball too... If you can trade right now for AD, Kuzma, Ingram and Ball, along with Hart and Pelinka's left and right testicles are all available...
I think it's blindingly apparent at this point that the FO is all-in on trading all the young dudes (Mott ref intended) for AD or any of the other top names...
I do think they'd 'LIKE' to keep Ball, but... Cmon... It's AD.

Given the basketball reasons history between the two franchises I just don't ever see them sending us a superstar. I think we should turn our attention elsewhere.

I say Davis will demand out in 2019 — to the Lakers. For basketball reasons.
He’s too great a player to go down in history as a Pelican.
