Lakers Trade Deadline Discussion & Rumors

Post#1 » by myersia » Fri Jan 18, 2019 7:40 pm

Only a few weeks away. What is everyone thinking? Obviously we have cap space we are worried about. Goal is to make the playoffs. I’ll start with my predictions and what I hope happens.

Predictions: minor trades for a shooters or bigs.

Players on the chopping block: KCP, Beasley, Zu (for right price), Ingram

Best Value: Ingram and now emerging Zu

Untouchable: kuz, bron, and Lonzo

My hopes: We keep ball, kuz, and zu. I’ve been so hard on Lonzo this year. But after watching these past few games especially last night I really can’t get over this guys potential. Consistency angers me with Lonzo because he can be so damn good but I guess I need to work on being patient. I’d like to see us trade for shooters. Not sure who’s available. I honestly think the only borderline all star that we realistically have a chance is Beal. But that contract would hurt our cap.

Thoughts? Feel free to post rumors, trades, and all things trade deadlines

Nobody but LeBron is untouchable... Mainly because we're not going to trade unless a top tier talent is available... Like Kawhi, KD or AD.... We're not going to trade assets when those guys are still on the table and we're not going to take on salary.

And if AD is available, we'll trade our entire young core for him if we have to... KD also... We may keep Ball if Kawhi is available...

But with our targets in mind, I don't see us keeping Ball AND anyone...

I really think the pelicans are going to be dumb with Davis and let him walk or trade him to the Celtics. Leonard will sign with clips or stay with raptors in my opinion. Durant we can sign.

I'm down... KCP, Zubac, and fillers and then in 8 years when Zubac turns into Gasol we'll do it all over again...

I could see this.... but my guess is if we can't pry one of those guys away we make minor trades for key pieces. I think we do this for 2 reasons.... one because we need a shooter...even if it's a role player. Second is because the FO is as much about PR as it is about winning. Not to say winning isn't their focus but if we don't make even a small trade to better the team it will be seen as another failure by them.

As for who's safe from a trade.... right now the ask from anyone will be Kuzma first. While he gets mixed reviews here (for instance no active threads about him...only Ball and Ingram) he's highly coveted around the league. His cost and his length of control is another reason he'd be the first ask. Then Zubac has put himself in line I think. Then Ingram. He's more valuable right now than he will most likely be next year with limited control and low cost. Ball is the one I think has the lowest "now" trade value. Someone would have to highly value what he's very good at and discount heavily the areas where he needs a lot of time.

If it's AD I see these guys going all over the place to get top 5 picks then sending those to NO. I don't think they see just adding the Lakers squad from last year as a path to anywhere and it has built in costs soon. I'd assume they want to start over.

just a slight correction. kuz did have his own thread but it got fkd up and it never saw the light of day again. besides. imo it’s a sign that we already what kuz is going to bring every game, while bi and zo are still huge question marks. anyways. carry on.

I was referring to the fact that there is little discussion of Kuz unless it's in relation to BI it seems. The Kuz thread is 20 pages in... so I wasn't seeing it as an "active" thread. Nothing more than that.

For that matter where's the Zu thread? He's showing he could be as good as any of the youth in the right situation right now. BI and Ball are the ones who were supposed to be LeBrons in the future if you read the draft threads. Largely the Kuz and Zu picks were received luke warm at best.

With the emergence of Zubac, does that give us another possible trade piece outside of the core pieces we have? It's tough to make a Vucevic deal and not involve our core and future draft picks, but..

KCP, Zubac, Wagner, Beasley, future 2nd rounder for Vucevic, Ross

I also can't see the Lakers making a straight up trade based around KCP for Vucevic. I can't see Orlando making that deal either. Our best hope is they decide to go full on youth embrace mode and want to collect assets for their expiring big pieces in Ross & Vucevic. It would also give them bird rights on KCP, who seems like a Steve Clifford type of player. However, KCP has been really good defending smaller guards and I believe that will be valuable come playoff time. However, if that deal went down would it be great for us. It also opens up 2 roster spots.

PG: Ball/Rondo/
SG: Ingram/Ross/
SF: Kuzma/Hart/
PF: LeBron/
C: Vucevic/McGee

That's a pretty damn good 8/9 man rotation in the playoffs.

I like the idea of this trade. I'd love to find a way to keep Zu but it makes sense to include him.

I've said it before..... I think a front court of Kuz, Bron and Vucevic would be very balanced and complementary. Get that sniper at the 2 guard and we'd have a pretty tough starting 5. If Ingram would accept a bench role that would even be better.

We could probably get Ellington for cheap.

Ellington would fit well if and when we go to playing Lebron ball.

Zubac/kuzma/Ellington/kcp/Lebron is basically a tailor made unit with a pick and roll big and 4 shooters for Lebron to work with.

Other than Tyson we lack physicality and Kenneth Faried is now available. A few years ago he was a key role player for Denver. If he has any of that left he'd be a great PF you could put in the game to play defense and get boards. Rockets are rumored to be after him unfortunately. I'd love to add him to our rotation.

Wasn't he signing or have signed with the Rockets?

Rumors are out there that he may be signing with the Rockets. I'm advocating for us to jump in. We'd weaken the Rockets and strengthen our team. We need some "nasty".

in any case, he'd be the perfect small ball c for us if he can revive his career here.

Melo traded to bulls and will be waived. I think there is a good chance we sign him because of bron. Don’t know why but I bet we do
