Are we wasting talent to cope with current era?

All have one thing in common. They are pretty weak at outside shot. The two of them are already playing for someone else, and the third one may be headed in that direction from the way things are going. Are we just wasting away talent in order to fit this so-called "3-point era"? These three players were - at some point - future of Lakers. But from lack of minutes to lack of trust, there were reasons that made them dispensable.

I look at Giannis and so many other young players that are flawed but still dominating within expectations. I'm not sure if I like our high expectations, or rather perfectionism. There isn't just one way to win.

The 3 point era has been filled with teams centering their offense on the 3 that have failed miserably. Not until GS has a team that centered it's offense on the 3 succeeded in getting a title. I don't see that as an "era" quite frankly.

You coach to your talent and trying to take a system that had success elsewhere and hammer it to fit your talent never works. How many teams had success with the Triangle at the pro level? 2 .... and they were centered on all time greats and coached by the same person. How many teams tried to emulate that? Several and none successfully. In the 80's Doug Moe's Denver teams could out fast break and score anyone but they had less success in a slower paced game like the ones that happen in long playoff series. The "Showtime" Lakers could push the tempo but they also had one of the best half court games as well. That era was called the "Fast Break" era yet only one team that had that as a central part of their offense won. Boston, Houston, Philly and Detroit were not fast breaking teams.

So.... our issue isn't with our players in the sense that the can't shoot the 3..... it's on the sideline IMHO. We need spacing and people who shoot the 3 well enough to spread the defense. We don't need 4 or 5 guys on the floor who can shoot the 3 well if that's the core of their offensive talent. What's going on in GS is unique to that talent mix.... not to a system.

As for Zu.... he actually shot the 3 pretty well in the G-League in limited attempts. He shoots facing up very well too. He just wasn't allowed to do it here. Randle and Ingram are guys who I don't see ever being true 3 point threats but they are very valuable players overall..... which is more important in my book.
