Kyrie Irving should be primary FA target

I think Lakers best chances to land a big name FA this off-season who can drastically improve this team should be Kyrie Irving. I think he'd gladly join James again, just this time in an awesome city.

I think it's the best chance Lakers have to land a big FA this off-season, with so many other teams with cap space going after the pool of star FA's.

If Kyrie signs, can throw the farm (including new lottery pick) at New Orleans for Anthony Davis. With the way Ingram has been playing, now that cooler heads have prevailed, they'd be silly not to re-consider the Lakers offer.

A big 3 of James, Davis and Kyrie skyrockets Lakers to best team in the league, assuming the rest of the roster can be filled out with shooters and defenders.

Do you think Kyrie should be the primary FA target for the Lakers this off-season?

I think he's our only real shot at a max player this summer.

Puts us in contention for a top 4 seed, and it improves our prospects of signing AD in 2020. I'm not entertaining the likelihood of NOP trading AD here. The signs all point to collusion with Boston. Might as well hit back with Kyrie and leave AD in a similar situation with Boston.

I don't think AD will give signs of wanting to re-sign in Boston if Kyrie isn't a part of the team, thus making it unlikely Boston will trade Tatum + elite assets to acquire him.

But I agree that Kyrie is the most realistic target and that Lakers should invest the resources required to try and get him to LA.

Just two seasons ago Kyrie demanded a trade away from Lebron, even though they had won a championship and went to three straight finals. Kyrie wanted to be "the man" on a team, and that would not happen with Lebron around. What has changed in the past two years?

It seems like Irving would be a logical option. Assuming the AD trade doesn't happen, the Lakers can trade Ball to Phoenix for bench depth. Find some shooters to surround Lebron and Irving and there's no reason why the Lakers can't be a top 4 team in the West next season.

Ugh nah, keep ball, or that team will be the worst defensive team in the league.
Kyrie + LBJ, no defense at all.

Get Kobe involved in the pitch. Kyrie May accept a Kobe challenge with the Lakers.

He's exactly what we need in a guard. He can finish at the rim, he can shoot the 3, he can create off the dribble and he can hit FT's. Getting him leaves either Ball or Ingram on the bench however. This is the issue with signing FA guards or small forwards. One of those guys goes to the bench or another team.

Life in the fast lane!

Offensively, yes. FA target magnet wise, yes, as it would have a calming effect on the potential LBJ worries by Kawhi, AD, Klay etc if Kyrie rejoined James.

Defensively, no. And that’s a big ass no. We happen to have the best defensive PG in the league on the injured list. Lonzo is our PG, for that reason alone.

If Kyrie became a Laker, I’d have to say play him at the two; which is the type of player he naturally is, albeit a short one.

Ball, Irving, Ingram, Kuzma, LBJ

That’s a bad ass lineup, offensively. It has two major flaws (in Kyrie and LBJ) defensively, perhaps three with Kuz.

So, assuming that Lonzo will come back as good or better than he left the game, and that nobody else is our point, we’d be better off signing Klay.

And I think that would have the same calming effect on FAs around the league...

Beggars can't be choosers. Any notable FA that shows an ounce of interest in the Lakers needs to be priority-ONE.

Beggars can't be choosers is right imo.

Ball, Irving, Ingram, James, ____ (C)
Rondo, Hart, Bullock or Stephenson, Kuzma, C

I don't think they'll have a "primary" target. They'll offer max spots to Irving, KD, Kawhi, Klay and hope one accepts.

Kyrie joining LeBron is impossible at this point. He would look like the biggest bitch in NBA history. And given who Kyrie is that will never ever happen. It would make sense given their compatibility, but will never ever happen.

The fact that he made that call opened the door and changed things.

Kyrie would be a coup of a signing, but I have a hunch KD is coming... and contrary to what many believe that AD has no leverage, he will force his way to the Lakers because actually he does have all the leverage... that is the 3-headed monster that will rattle the league and put the Lakers back where we belong, as the most hated team in the league... as a lifelong fan, I wouldn’t have it any other way!

nothing. i know a month or so ago the nba media tried to promote this scenario of KI rejoining LBJ. but it just makes very little sense given the history.

I have a realistic 1A & 1B without the KD, AD, Leonard & Klay drama...

1A: Give Uncle Drew the Rock & let’s play ball... Uncle Drew, Bullock, LBJ, Kuzz & McGee would be a solid team... Trade Ball to the Suns for their pick & make the bench even stronger...

1B: Sign Butler. He isn’t happy in Philly & he is a hard nosed competitor. Ball & Butler would be an incredible defensive backcourt... Add LBJ & Kuzz with a big man & the squad would be solid...

Lakeshow Baby...

Sadly this. I actually think Kawhi is more realistic than Kyrie. But if we miss out on the K boys - Klay, KD, Kyrie, and Kawhi, then I still think Cousins or Butler are gonna be high targets.

Under the radar we should really look at Malcom Brogdon. Finally got a few chances to see him play and I really like his game, just solid all around. He's the type of piece that works well on a championship roster. 50/40/90 guy that plays tough D, can handle PG duties, and is 26? Sign me up. Could probably get him for cheaper then Klay, though I'd probably take Klay still but if the big names go crazy and go to NY and other places I think we could do well with just keeping our core, sign Brogdon, Cousins, and some better fitting bench and roll with that.
