Positives to not making the playoffs in 2019

Post#1 » by MelosSoreWrist » Fri Mar 8, 2019 4:00 am

1) Potential top 10 lottery pick. (Could be a valuable piece to get AD)

2) Superstar free agents might be more open to coming to LAL as they would be seen as a savior. (Kawhi and Durant)

3) Coaching change?

...got any more?

How does that make you better than the Lin, Gallo, and Wil fans who root for them over NY?

3) could end up being a negative

1. LeBron gets more rest
2. Marquee FAs see the Lakers as a work in progress (with them as the key missing piece), instead of a ready made sure thing contender with minimal impact.
3. Lottery pick

The ONLY positive is a Top 10 pick to use as trade bait for ANYONE except AD... I don’t want to deal with that DRAMA again to watch an East Coast team come in & swipe him up... NO is going to send him to the East not the West... Whoever gets the #1 pick, will get AD & NO rebuilds with their new STAR...

I am a little frustrated with the FO but remember, they inherited Luke while most FO’s like to put their stamp on the coaching staff...

Tankathon 5.0...

I was always on the fence about us getting to the playoffs in the first place. I was surprised by the team up to LeBron's injury and it looked like we'd make it for sure. Since then it's been a lot like last year..... and the year before.... and the year before.

The pick is a good thing and another off season to swing for the fences is as well. This team, as constructed, isn't going much further than the first round if everything goes right.... we need balance and experience if we're going to make a run in Bron's window.

I am not even anti Luke Walton, but its not working out here. And to be fair to LW, I am not sure many coaches wouldve been able to handle the roster and drama this season to success.

Other than a better pick, there is absolutely none. This is the worst season to sit through since we bottomed out, way worse than the last 2 years (at least we knew we were bad then, we should have been a 6th seed or higher this year).

Nothing you can do about injuries

Our 3 best players played only 31% of the season together

Too many chicken littles, what you expect

And our energy players were not used enough
Stop being so disrespectful.

Yeah I’m not even pro Luke, I just don’t trust the FO to not hire someone worse.

It forces the Lakers as an organization to wake up and honestly evaluate themselves from top-bottom. And if they don’t, this organization will continue to rot. Kevin Arnovitz ripped the Lakers on Zach Lowe’s podcast AND on Mason and Ireland and everything he said was 100% correct.

- Rob Pelinka needs to go or re-assigned to a different position in the organization. I’m not sure what he brings to the table if teams don’t even return his phone calls and just want to go straight to Magic. His past has harmed us in negotiations. Bring in a basketball person with some credibility around the league who commands respect and can start to take away some of the “Laker Envy” around the league. I’d start with David Griffin, who knows & has good relationships with LeBron and Kyrie. He’s made great moves with and without LeBron.

- Hire a completely new coaching staff & medical staff: Monty Williams and Jeff Van Gundy are the people I like. Hire some strong assistant coaches and a completely new medical team.

You all still think we can get AD through trade even if we include top 10 pick? lol

Not gonna work out sorry to burst your bubbles.

Ingrams Injured
Balls Injured
Hart playing injured
Kuz probably still injured

So 4 injured players + top 10 pick for AD? Never gonna happen

If we gonna get AD we gotta hope for the best in FA unless we can pull off a 3 team trade or something?

Just keeping it real
My Go Team
Magic, Jordan, Pippen, Duncan, Shaq

My Counter
Stockton, Kobe, Bird, Rodman, Dirk

Agreed.

There is no way to spin this as a positive. Getting to the playoffs and facing GS or Denver in the first round would have been a great learning experience for the young guys.

The positives not to make the playoffs are a possibility of higher pick. The remainder of the season should be a time to evaluate the team and determine who goes and who stays. Management has to consider what were the major causes of the team's failure to win. Coaching and player personnel mistakes occurred what direction will management follow and correct these problems. What will be the plan of action to take? The Lakers Organization should not make any bold predictions and reduce the hype until a winning season occurs. What players did yesterday does not win NBA Titles? It could sell some tickets and concessions.
