I suspect if you adjust for conferences, Lakers have 12-18 more wins during that time period which might be enough to push past the Knicks..

Kobe injury combined with last 2 years of his contract obviously tough on Lakers. And a few trades were bad as well.

Since Kobe tore his Achilles, Lakers have apparently had the worst record in the league according to Kevin Arnovitz. Yep, worse than sad sack franchises like Suns, Hawks, magic, Kings, knicks, wolves and even Brooklyn who looked hopeless not too long ago.

Magic came around and let away 4 of our best draft picks since then.
