Is this an athletic trainer problem or a strength and endurance trainer problem (Gunnar Peterson)? This kinda feels like we're firing the doctor for the patient having diabetes and heart disease after a life full of fast food and coke.

The problem starts with Gunnar, I doubt Gary Vitti let Nunez succeed him after years of of working side by side thinking he was incompetent. No, Gunnar was the one who said Ingram didn't need to gain weight and later midseason flip flopped and said he needs to bulk up. There's no time for learning the job on the fly... he's more used to aesthetics and celebrities. Gunnar is another of the dozen mistakes by Magic and Pelinka.

Tend to agree but then we don't know what his ultimate responsibilities were. Mistakes made or the dynamics behind the scenes.

the whole training staff thing has always been a mystery to me, not sure where they start and end, where the doctors come in

Edit: also reading it's not like he was fired, his contract just wasn't renewed

This guy was probably too capable... Didn't have straight or white enough teeth, had a little too much body fat, and a bad tan... Probably didn't know anyone famous either...

Why couldn’t it have been Marco Rubio or Devin Nunes

Good point about Gunnar.

I also believe that Vitti would never have handed over the reigns to someone who was incompetent.

At least we see that results have consequences now.

Finally some accountability in this area. Sure injuries and preventive sports medicine is necessary, but also development...just look at Brandon Ingram.

Lakers should poach Phoenix trainers and health specialists.
