Just a note in hindsight, teams are currently giving up future first round picks to get off of good players on expiring deals (iggy, harkless). May be the “haul” the Lakers gave up in picks really isn’t as “valuable” as some may think.

First round picks are a real crapshoot these days. The one and done era has overhyped so many guys who really don't belong at the top of a draft. I think teams are starting to come to that realization and are now looking for established players over youth and potential.

Draft picks are always overrated until they’re actually picked. I don’t know why fans and NBA GMs get such hard one for picks. I guarantee you no one could tell you who the Lakers gave up in the Nash trade and that was a horrible trade for us. The idea that a team who’s given up future picks is going to tank instead of you know doing everything to avoid giving up a lottery pick pretty much fuels the insane obsession with picks. Hell just look at Boston and Brooklyn, the cautionary tale about giving up draft picks. Brooklyn is undoubtedly in a better position now and in the future than the Celtics despite the disastrous trade.

The grizzlies are reported to be waiving Iggy. If true, they essentially paid $17 million for GSW's (lightly) protected 2024 draft pick. I'd call that pretty valuable!

With $22 million in cap space? Who's signing for that?

Just wait, you’ll see.

Was it Danny Green? Did I miss the super star?

Did it take you three weeks to come up with that? You seem as proud as the city of Portland after a western conference finals sweep.

Let me tell you this..

If AD doesn't re-sign, this team won't sniff the playoffs for about 10 years. A lot of non committal stuff from AD the last couple days in questions from Plaschke (press conference) and Rachel Nichols (ESPN).

Nice deflection. So you were wrong then, is what you're trying to say?

AD is playing his cards correctly. Plashke throws those Qs out there, to generate more controversy and more news, to create more stories or hit pieces. Not necessary to answer those questions right now. Hes mentioned enough for me, that he Loves the team, and would put them up against anyone. Hes also said hes been in close contact with front office in the building of the team. Thats all you can ask for. Like Kawhi, less is better some times. If it was Magic, sh&# would be out there for all to see, and everyone would know all our business

First round draft picks are the most valuable general asset.

Talent is distributed logarithmically toward higher draft picks. OKC and Golden State had to tank hard to build through the draft.

The championship Celtics needed two firsts to land Kevin Garnett, and the championship Cavs wouldn’t have been able to get Kevin Love without sending first pick Wiggins. And the Heat traded two firsts for Lebron and two for Bosh in those sign-and-trades.

The Raptors had to include a first to get Kawhi, and the Clippers are a great example firsts can be a force multiplier.

Firsts are like cartons of cigarettes in Shawshank. Can’t get anything down without them.

One can reasonably assume Anthony Davis would re-sign after a successful postseason. However, he’s under absolutely no obligations to do so, and if this season ends in disappointment, nobody would be surprised if he left. So yes, of course there’s enormous risk this season, and it’s naive to think otherwise. This is make or break for the next 5 years.

I think we’ll win the championship and then he’ll re-sign. Dude, the women of LA is enough to make unibrow never want to leave us.

Meanwhile, Kawhi was just banned by a local coffee chain.

AD is gonna be the best player on the best team in the biggest market in the best city.
NBA titles since the merger: LAL 11, CHI 6, SAS 5, BOS 5, GSW 4.

That still doesn't change the fact that it still comes back to the player evaluation process. If you don't do that well, it doesn't matter how many draft picks you have. Everyone points out the Warriors draft and develop situation when they got Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green in 3 out of 4 years. But look at the previous 4 years, the Warriors drafted Anthony Randolph, Marco Belinelli, Patrick O'Bryant, and Ike Diogu with their FRP. It takes a bit of skill, but a LOT of luck. What if the Wolves had opted for Curry over Flynn? What if Milwaukee opted for Klay over Jimmer? There's a LOT of luck involved.

That's a laundry list of meh teams. The only team that I think might have a chance of poaching Anthony Davis would be the Knicks, and that likely isn't happening.
