The Grizzlies aren't buying him if they can get an asset for him. The market might be dry right now so maybe they'd want to wait until mid-december/january when some of the guys that signed in the summer are trade eligible. OTOH i do think there is a good chance that he gets bought out before the season starts. Many of the teams that are interested in Iggy can actually trade for him now and i'm not sure what player they're hoping to get.

Also, Iggy is pretty well regarded around the league and the Grizzlies aren't holding him hostage until the deadline just to get a mid 2nd rounder.

I’m guessing Memphis would rather trade Iggy for a couple of future draft picks and only very few teams would offer that for an aging player. Maybe just the Bucks and the Sixers both have legit chances of making it with his help.

Well, of course. They're going to chase whatever deal they can get that's better than just buying him out. My point is that i dont think there's a lot of teams that are willing or able to trade for him. You mention Philly and Milwaukee, but what can they realistically offer? I guess Milwaukee can offer either Bledsoe or a combination of Illyasova and one of Hill and BroLO, but i'm not sure that's going to help them. Philly doesn't have anything to offer that they cant offer right now.

2 2nd round picks or 2022 conditional 1st rounder plus fillers should do it

Playoff minutes look like this if Cousins doesn't return:

14 mins: Bradley, Green, LeBron, Kuzma, AD
14 mins: Caruso, KCP, Kuzma, LeBron/AD, McGee
10 mins: Caruso, Green/Bradley, LeBron, AD, McGee
10 mins: Bradley, KCP, Green, LeBron, AD

41 mins: LeBron, AD
29 mins: Kuzma, Green, Bradley
24 mins: McGee, Caruso, KCP

If Lakers trade in THT and a FRP for Rabb (and to push Memphis to buyout Iggy so he goes to the Lakers) then it changes to:

14 mins: Bradley, Green, LeBron, Kuzma, AD
14 mins: Caruso, KCP, Iggy, AD/LeBron, Kuzma
10 mins: Caruso, Green/Iggy, LeBron, AD, McGee
10 mins: Bradley, Green, Iggy, LeBron, AD

41 mins: LeBron, AD
29 mins: Green, Iggy, Kuzma
24 mins: Caruso, Bradley
12 mins: KCP, McGee

This team is better than he one with a healthy Cousins tbh. Working out a deal with Memphis is crucial.

AD will be a Knick next year if our plan is to play AD at the C for 24mpg. Just saying. Ten more years of rebuild?

Listen to what he said to John Ireland about it in his first ESPN LA radio interview. Listen.

AD does NOT want to play center.

We need a new center, not a new plan.

I know, this is just playoffs though. In the RS he'd be playing 90% PF.

He will realise the best 8-9 guys only has one C because the best C they got had a serious leg injury. He's not going to be leaving knowing that Lakers set up the season to make him a PF and things happened out of their control.

This is what I see myself. Just because a player (who was projected to have a big role at the very least in the RS rotation) got injured, it doesn't mean we need to reconsider everything we've built & explore the possibility of going a different direction.

As others have already said, losing Cousins doesn't only mean we lose his interior defense & scoring as a Center but in his case we also lose his playmaking which was low-key really valuable given how our roster has been constructed. There is definitely no big available who can duplicate the cocktail of a little bit of scoring/playmaking/interior D/outside shooting/rebounding that Cousins might have given us, so we might as well start addressing these new needs one at a time & prioritize interior D + rebounding which happen to coincide with AD's health as well as his preference to play PF. We have all heard the names by now, Noah Dwight Faried Amir Gortat Nene. After a very quick look at several NBA sites known for their boxscore stats & Advanced metrics, I lean towards Dwight (who's still under contract) & Noah. Noah had a very productive "half of a real season" with Memphis, among all Bigs he was 94th percentile in Opponent's Pts/Poss, 92nd percentile in Opponent's eFG%, 83rd percentile in Opponent's OREB%, 73rd percentile in Opponent's TOV% & (his only below-average rank) 42nd percentile in Opponent's FT Rate. Howard wasn't close to being ranked so high on average in these 5 areas combined neither in his 2017-18 Hornets season nor in his 2016-17 Hawks season. He was slightly better with the Hawks than the Hornets, but still overall significantly worse than 2019 Memphis Noah (at least according to data). If Noah can stay healthy enough to handle a 18 mpg role, then he's a decent choice at the end of August when the next-best free agent is probably 6'8'' Faried. If Pelinka believes Noah' health is too much of a risk to take, then and only then I'd go after Faried and I'd still try to get Dwight from Memphis first before I see Faried as a serious option for a regular role at Center.

Noah is the option boys as he will protect the paint, rebound & make plays (assists)... He is a very under rated passer from the high post... I don’t want to see Coward on the Lakers...

We need more than a backup C. McGee is good for 22 min/gm for 50 games

howard, noah or gortat are much better than faried? i doubt it.

We have to look at our conference. The next top team was joker at denver. Zubac is heavy in the middle for the clips. Utah has strength on the interior. We can battle with speed teams. But a stronger interior team, we need a strong post defender like a cousins, who wont allow deep post position. Then we can have AD come weakside and swat.

Iggy (24) Rondo (14) Cook (10)
Green (28) Caruso (20) Bradley
Lebron (32) Kuzma (16) Daniels
AD (26) Kuzma (16) Dudley (6)
McGee (22) Howard (22) AD (6) Kostas

I actually like the fit of McGee next to AD better... Less overlap, better rim protection.

I feel like we can keep him playing all season if we bring him off the bench.
