Lakers roster opinions

Post#1 » by LeCalinou » Sun Jul 7, 2019 7:21 am

Although I don't think each post-Kawhi move was perfect, I think overall the Lakers did a pretty good job, all things considered.
I think they have shooting from a lot of bench players, and roles will be better defined this year.

Starters: Rondo, Green, James, Davis, Cousins.
Bench: Cook, KCP, Dudley, Kuzma, McGee.
Third stringers: Caruso, Daniels, Norvell, Horton-Tucker...

Just a few quick notes:
- Cousins should be better suited this year to work his way back, as the 3rd option (and not the 4th, like last year)
- Rondo's game and IQ is better fitted with veterans. He likes to manage personalities by getting them the ball and controlling the flow. Compared to last year's squad, who were better equipped to run, and were trying to prove themselves, Rondo's attributes should be a net positive this time.
- Kuzma off the bench is something I really like. Not because he's not good enough as a player, but because his game is so diverse. He's very fluid, makes quick decisions, can really score in many different situations.

Agree ? Disagree ?

I like how our roster is shaping. If we could sign Bradley and a good wing defender to the SF spot (either Iguodala if he is bought out or Justin Holiday) I think we did fine this offseason.

Just some interesting inquiries to ponder...Who is going to guard Kawhi.and PG? Who would guard milsap and joker? How about matchups with gobert and bogs? Then our speed lineups vs the lineups in houston? Or a portland? So that were not just looking at our lineup in a box and say, thats nice. But looking at matchups vs competition. Not stats and numbers. But actual marltchups. Its gonna get interesting for our staff.

Clippers: We have no multiple defenders to use for both George and Kawhi. This is why we need another wing defender. Currently our best shot is to put Green on George and Davis on Kawhi and let's see what happens. If we sign Iguodala then we have anoher option…

Denver: Davis on Jokic is the most plausible and I don't think we will be killed… Lebron on Millsap in the PO would also do the job. The other option is to let Cousins fight w/ Jokic and let Davis eat Millsap alive. Matchupwise I think we are fairly good against the Nuggets.

Utah: Gobert doesn't need special attention. He would impose more damage on us when he will shut Davis or Cousins down. We are also looking good against them.

GSW: This is a hard matchup again. We have no answers for a healthy Curry, Klay, D'Angelo backcourt. Green and KCP are our best options and if we sign someone like Iguodala. (Maybe of Caruso has a breakout season but that's not very probable...). Fortunately it won't happen too often that those 3 will be on the court at the same time.

Green & Kuzma will take big defensive roles. Hope kuzma improving his defence this summer.

The Clippers and GSW can do two things to AD. Jack squat and like it. I think the Clippers are slightly better, but people are dramatically underrating how much AD is going to improve this team.

We've already seen AD feed GSW their lunch twice in the playoffs, it just went unnoticed because he had next to no help in either series.

I also wouldn't sleep on the Rockets, as I think they are ahead of Denver, Utah, and GSW as things stand.
Numbers rule the universe.

PG: Caruso / Rondo / Cook / Norvell
SG: Green / KCP / Daniels / THT
SF: James / **Iggy**? / Dudley
PF: Davis / Kuzma / Cacok
C: McGee / Cousins / Perkins

I think Pelinka is holding on to the cash left until Iggy’s buyout happens.

This would make our second unit starting caliber comparable to 20 teams.

My opinion? Pelinka is killing it!

LeBron: Had an "Off year"... 28-8-8.
AD: Was neutered... 25 and 12.
Kuz: 2nd year guy... 18 and 5.
Cousins: Played 30 games coming off of an ACL injury where most wrote him off... 16 and 8.
Danny Green: Hits FT's? Check. Hit's his 3's? Check. I'm sold.
Caruso: Earned his keep. Will be a great rotational player for us.
McGee: Played at a high level for us for a stretch. Reduced role, I expect him to do well.
Cook: Not too familiar with him. Looks like he'll be a solid 3rd option at PG.
KCP: ...#sigh
Rondo: ...#sigh. Can still see him being serviceable. I think he'll feast
Horton-Tucker: Expecting him to be relegated to the G League, but would like to see him get some PT. I have a good feeling about him.

Far from perfect, but I'm excited about what we currently have.

Shumpert is hot garbage, good locker room guy, but he sucks at everything, really really bad.

I would love to have Bradley and Iggy instead of KCP and Dudley, but everything else is kind of allright given the circumstances.
Cook, Green and Cousins for 20M is great value. MCGee as a backup I’m totally fine.
Rondo and Daniels signings are meh, at least is the min.

Hope to get another solid vet in the buyout market. Is there any chance Dragic get bought out from OKC if the Westbrook trade goes through?

Overall I think we did pretty well considering how Kawhi strung us along. People on the GB might think we're not even a playoff team, but I think this team is already a contender. People are underestimating the Lakers and they'll regret it.

I'd like to see another SG/SF slasher (can be Iggy) and primary ballhandler.

Our big man stocks are a tad thin. One injury and we're talking gleague recruits.

I think we needed another player that could play small ball 5 (Kuzma doesn't count).

I wish we could've grabbed Marcus Morris, but you can't get them all. He could've been our PJ Tucker though.

I think we definitely need more 1 more wing defender and a big that can play small ball 5 to round out

Not a lakers fan.

This offseason makes a lot more sense than last year. Last year it seemed like a plan failed other then lebron, leaving them scrambling. Still issues but the roster fit looks a lot better. I’m honestly not sure how many spots they have left. I’d personally add a shooter over a defender, as a stretch big.
