Yeah...I'm actually at my computer right now. Don't see too much of anything, tbh.

Caruso is fine. I don't think he's a great player, but he's improving and considering where he was a year ago, it's awesome. We really lack at the PG position, and he's helping much better than I expected.

I'm not gonna blow the guy. He took 1 shot, grabbed 1 board, and had 2 assists in 25 minutes. I'd like to see more. Somewhere between calling the player 'a beast' and "hating" there's this VVVVVAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSTTTTTTT range. Get out of the Caruso temple now and then. You'll see a whole bunch of guys who aren't enamored with him...but who root for him, and think he's a wonderful story.

So you want him to take more shots= taking shots away from the red hot shooting Kuzma in the 2nd half?
dominate the ball and hunt for assists thereby not letting Lebron probe the defense, set the offense and set up Kuzma, AD etc?
I understand the hatred towards some Caruso fanatics but some of them don't proclaim him to be a a great player but a player who understand his role. What he provides usually don't appear on the stat sheets like on ball defense, drawing charges, getting to spots where he doesnt crowd Lebron and AD and having the ability to rotate and switch to taller players unlike Rondo and Cook who are shorter. Yes, he has limitations, his mid game has been underwhelming imo.
Vogel will adjust and use certain players according to what is happening in the first half. Jrue was on fire but Pelicans don't play good defense, hence more Caruso and less Rondo.
Some nights, the other team jams the Lakers offense and tire out Lebron from setting the offense, so he uses Rondo more and facilitate....

Aww.... the "what he does doesn't appear on stat sheets" argument..... in a "but his advanced stats should dictate everything" world. The tension is palpating.....

Caruso is a zero offensively and is a decent situational defender. He's got a feel for the game but lacks the skills to excel. Lot's of guys carve out a role in the league with that make up. Last night he was overmatched in his first run defensively by some hot shooting but was able to stay in front of Holiday for the most part in his second run. Everything else was somewhat forgettable. When we struggle offensively he becomes an issue. Everyone talks about teams leaving Rondo.... are those people watching what teams are doing with Caruso? Every time he passes to the post his defender drops to double. Until he shows something offensively this will happen.

The one thing you may be ignoring is that every body and their mom know that Caruso is a role player, that includes Alex himself. His role is not to be an offensive nightmare to other teams. He is doing what he is supposed to be doing and in that context you may want give the guy some slack. He is capable of scoring but that would just take away from better scorers on the team. He is taking what the defense gives him and that is just fine for his role.

Slack?! What did I say "against" him? I don't think he's capable of scoring.... unless it's a broken play or in transition at this level. Yes, he's a role player and yes he's limited and yes he's playing within those limitations. My only point is that when we're struggling to score what he brings isn't all we're needing. That's not attacking him in anyway IMHO.

This is exactly right. The last several games we've flat out stunk in the first half and even into the 3rd quarter. When we get serious we have been dominating defensively. A lot of talk about individual players.... ±.... fit and all but the issues we've had (if you can say a 16-2 team has issues) have all been motivation based it seems.

I think it comes from being 16-2 and a little from the nagging injuries keeping us from a consistent rotation at times. Maybe add in there that every team's biggest game in a given month is against us as well.

So are you saying the Lakers should have sat him and played Rondo more last night? Lakers has a season ORTG OF 111.3 pts/game, last night they had 113.8 ORTG with an EFG OF 56.5%. Yes there are factors that can affect this like Pelican's bad defense etc but the question again was, who was a better alternative? They won the game, Jrue was not as productive in scoring in the 2nd half.
Let me just say again that I have no beef with other players like Rondo or anyone. I think it's about certain situations when Vogel has to make a judgment call on who should play more esp in the 2nd half. Rondo was very good IMO against the Spurs etc.
If the other team is more focused on defense and they are making it difficult for the Lakers to score but they are not as deadly offensively, I think Vogel would lean on playing Rondo more esp if Rajon is hitting his shots.
It would be interesting though on what Vogel would do vs Houston and Denver.

Caruso was a potent scorer last season. Watch the home stretch of last season. The shot will soon drop, then his driving lanes will open up. He can finish around the rim at a high clip. It’s all just confidence lacking right now. The dam will burst eventually.

Not saying that at all.... just that our offense was very stagnant and he doesn't help at all when that happens. Rondo was similarly ineffective last night however he can break defenses down offensively where Caruso hasn't shown any of that ability. Teams are starting to leave him. He needs to be able to make at least a few open shots to keep them honest. Last night it was more apparent than most because of our lack of ball movement.

I'm not arguing that the offense was stagnant and yet they had a higher ORTG AND EFG% than usual. Again, it doesn't mean Caruso was great on offense since lot of it was bec of Orleans bad defense. IMO, Lakers didn't need better ball rotation and movement bec Lebron and AD were simply getting their way, James had an easier time driving to the basket but they also needed better defense.
Caruso is by no means a lock up defender but he is decent enough to stay in front of his man and he is 6-5, tall enough to rotate/switch to bigger guys unlike Rondo.
There will be times when Rondo will be needed more esp against defensive minded teams who will try to wear out Lebron from 90 feet.

Caruso makes very few mistakes. That’s how he’s earning his minutes. Defense first. Moves well off the ball next to LBJ. I see his function as a Rick Fox or Derek Fisher type; in other words, a future reliable role player on any contender with ball dominant stars. He’s a 6’5” PG who can get hot from three. Coaches go to whom they can trust on defense down the stretch,

Again, he’ll be our starting PG by the Christmas game.

The offense doesn't need to be explosive when the defense is elite, and the defense has been elite with Caruso on the floor this season. Caruso has the best defensive rating on the team. He doesn't put up monster stats, but he doesn't need to when he's playing with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Caruso plays within himself and sometimes that's all you need from a role player.

I mean....I don't even know what to tell you. You even bolded and underlined my statement about 1 shot, 1 board, and 2 assists in 25 minutes was lacking in production. But you twist that into me saying he needs to jack up shots.

But the thing is, I'm not interested in turning this into an argument with the fundamental Carus-tians about hating. Don't hate the guy, won't hate the guy. He's doing a great job for what he is. I'm as happy as anyone that he's found his calling on the defensive end, although I find him far from "elite". I don't think he's a clear notch above Rondo....but if he gets there, then I'll be A)happy and B)I'll say it. But for him to be out there for 25 minutes and get a bucket a board and 2 assists isn't enough. It's not. And you can take that and run with it any direction you like. I don't care personally. I remember giving Pau crap all the time when he'd have these 2 or 3 rebound games. I'd say that you could stick a trash can somewhere within 10 feet of the basket, and it'd get 2-3 rebounds a game. And sure enough....the Pau army always came to his defense. Never could they look a 2 rebounds from a 7-footer and say "yeah...that was pretty sad tonight"...NO.....I had to be a big Pau HATER. HATER. HATER.

*yawn*

If your happy with 1 shot, 1 board, and 2 assists outa Caruso....maybe you don't like him, eh?

I couldnt care less how many points, assists, or rebounds he gets. He's not out there to pile up stats. He's out there to do whatever he can to help the team, and that's what he did against the Pelicans. Dude had a +50 net rating in 25 minutes with both an elite offense and an elite defense. I'm happy as can be with his production. The Lakers lose that game without Alex Caruso and that's the bottom line.

I don't have a vested interest in Caruso, I just recognize how valuable he has been for the Lakers this year. We have been a 4th quarter team this year, and Caruso is averaging 8.2 minutes per 4th quarter. That's the third most on the team behind LeBron and JaVale, and really the second most because JaVale has only played in four 4th quarters. The Lakers have a +12.5 net rating in 4th quarters this year.

Against bad teams Lakers will not have any problems scoring but against top 10 defensive teams, it's a potential problem.
Game 1 vs the Clippers, Rivers put a smaller/pesky Beverley on Lebron. James eventually wore out and ran out of gas in the 4th quarter resulting to a loss.
Kings coach Luke also dared and put Corey Joseph on Lebron to, Vogel pulled out KCP to add another ball carrier but they still needed a superb block from AD to secure the win and that's a game against a team missing their lead player.
Vs the top 6 Toronto, they lost the game with a paltry ORGT OF 102, their average is at 112.2.
This team is loaded with shooters and defenders. KCP,Bradley, Green, Cook, Daniels are all substandard dribblers and court generals/facilitators and I am not sure Caruso can fulfill that role yet. I can see the Clippers again trying to wear out Lebron with Beverley and Kawhi/PG trying to smother the rest and totally disrupt their offense.

I think having a consistent effort throughout the game depends a lot upon the balance of the team. The Lakers are very top heavy with two superstars. The role players and bench are average, so you can expect oscillation. Vogel could maybe try to tweak the rotations a little better so to emphasize D more consistently. Those lineups with 3 guards + Kuz will not do a good job on the defensive end.
