Clippers or Lakers?

PEOPLE FROM LOS ANGELES ANSWER ONLY PLEASE!!!
With both the Clippers and Lakers calling Los Angeles home for a while, I have always had a question about how people in the Los Angeles area choose between the two teams. Most areas have one local NBA team that the majority of the population all root for. In Los Angeles though, it is a heated rivalry that no one can agree on it seems. Is it the prestige and glory of the Lakers in the past? Is it wanting to be a ‘rebel’ or different and going with the newly formed Clippers? Why or how do you, as an LA native choose between the two teams.

You are obviously not aware that 90% of basketball fans in LA root for the Lakers. The Clippers are the red-headed stepchild of Los Angeles teams. There are only a handful of people in LA who care about the Clippers.

Clipper fans are just those who need a medium to show their dislike and frustration towards the Lakers and their fans.
Thus the clippers
We are the sole glorious team housed in the staples center.
They are the squatting hobo drug addict somehow occupying the same area that we want OUT

The Clippers moved into LA in '84, right in the middle of the Showtime Lakers Dynasty. Unless the Clippers were going to be title contenders, they were never going to be the Lakers' rival, or displace the Lakers as the city/fan favorites.
Now, I have always been a Laker fan first, but in the 90s,I use to root for the Clippers, just not as enthusiastically as I did for the Lakers. As far as I can remember, there was no fan base rivalry then, not like today. For the Lakers, I remember watching Nick van Excel, Cedric Ceballos, and Eddie Jones. For the Clippers, I remember the days of Danny Manning, Ron Harper, Mark Jackson. I still had some interest in rooting for them when they had Odom, Maggette, and Elton Brand. Those teams had some talent, but never made the playoffs. And with the rise of Kobe and Shaq, all the while attracting a new generation of fans, the Lakers just eclipsed anything the Clippers could do... the Lakers are just too successful and have been around longer.
Los Angeles has always been a Laker town.

Lakers are in my blood, in my genes, my heritage even.
Clippers on the other hand moved here like in the 80s from SD, and are a team that people cheered back in the day because they felt sorry for them. Today it seems their fan base is a combo of transplants from out-of-state, or started to follow basketball after the championship years from what I can tell. To be honest they should move to a place that could use a team. Seattle? Vegas? Vancouver?

I used to goto Clipper games because (A) it was almost always free, and (B) you got to see some great opposing teams.
There is no rivalry between the Lakers and the Clippers. Just a small handful of dip-$$ts who like to proclaim all these big things that the Clippers are gonna do this year. They get regular season boners like nobody's business. Prob because they have never gotten past 2nd base.
No rivalry whatsoever. Anyone who argues with a Clipper fan, is that guy who argues with his 3-year old. They have almost no history of good games. Of talented teams. Of great moments. Can I name a great Clipper moment??? Maybe beating the snot out of the Lakers .......in the regular season. You can do that with the Clippers: ........in the regular season. Otherwise there's nothing to say.
Meanwhile the Laker and the Celtics have a rich, rich rivalry. Prob more Finals series with the Celtics than Clippers have playoff series. No joke, btw.
Laker town.....the goombas are the hated ones (but at least I respect them) and I look forward to the Clippers moving to Seattle when they realize 10-15 years into their grand plan....they've maybe sucked 40 poor Laker-souls over to their side.

i'm pretty sure it's less than 90-10, it's closer towards 98-2, i.e. 1 clippers fan for every 50 lakers fans
clippers don't have a stronghold anywhere unlike brooklyn, though they're going to try to turn the area around inglewood into their area. before the warriors and kings got good, the lakers sphere of influence went all the way up to norcal and east past vegas
it's nothing like dodgers/angels at all

I always wished they moved out and now they have a super wealthy owner that bought the GWF.
put it this way if the Lakers were to get sold and disappear from LA, I still would never cheer for any clippers team.

only reason to go to a clippers game is to watch a lakers game at a discount price

Clippers fans are born contrarians.
They don't wanna hang out with the cool kids because hanging out with the cool kids wouldn't be cool.
Look at the history, there is no reason to live in Los Angeles and not be a Laker fan. Clipper fans on the other hand have suffered through racist ownership, incompetent management, lack of a charismatic leader, bust after bust; and still they persist simply because they can't stand to be with the majority. They don't want to be 'conformists', they want to be that cool guy who's favorite band you haven't even heard of.
They literally make themselves miserable because to like what everyone else likes couldn't possibly be cool, man.

Let say there's a work of masterful art like the Mona Lisa hung in a los Angeles museum since 50 years ago there would naturally be tons of local fans and international fans coming to see this masterpiece and praise it.
Imagine a crumbled used fecal piece of toilet paper on the ground. Why would anyone be a fan of it ?
Maybe just to spit on mona Lisa fans by screaming in their faces that the fecal piece of toilet paper is worthy of praise ?
Best analogy i can come up with for Lakers clippers and their respective fans.

I remember the Clippers would sell those bundle package tickets back in the days because no one would go to their games.

My Dad got really into Magic Johnson when I was 6 and the Lakers drafted him... I think the Clippers were still in San Diego then... So there wasn't a choice for me...
But since then...
Clippers are and have always been, LA's dirty little secret... You go to a Clippers game but you don't tell anyone, and you hide from the kiss cam.
At the office:
You: "Hey, I'm going to the Laker game tonight!" Everyone: "Dude! WTF, you got an extra ticket?" Your Boss: "You better head out a little early to avoid the traffic... Hey grab me a jersey."
You: "Hey, I'm going to the Clippers game tonight!" Everyone: "Mmhmmm... That's nice." Your Boss: "You better finish those reports before you leave."

I remember helping a buddy move to a new apartment (prob 18 to 20 years ago) and one of his neighbors came out and introduced himself...and after a couple minutes of chatting the guy said that he worked for Clipper ticket sales. My buddy said (to his face, btw) "Wow....people 'buy' clipper tickets??"
Im sure the guy had heard that before. He was a good sport about it. About 8 months later, he moved out of state. Wish he'd taken the clips with him.

Honestly, the Clippers really shouldn't be having this hard a time attracting fans.
They just went full edgelord with the whole "we're blue collar and the Lakers aren't" angle when in reality, they were just projecting, and carried themselves like they somehow owned LA
Even the Lakers turned out to be the scrappy defensive team they marketed themselves as, so it sort of double back fired on them

The Clippers and their scum owner should move out of town. That is, if they ever want to build a profitable fan base. An Angeleno of 16 years, my guess would be 92-8 in favor of Lakers if you knocked on 100 random doors.
There is no real fan base of theirs. Because they’re the Los Angeles Clippers.
Also, there is no rivalry. The Clits haven’t even been to the conference finals. We have a few trophies. A rivalry requires both teams winning. We’ll be here waiting when ... nah.
As a Lakers fan, to know what a Clippers fan is like? That is rare knowledge. Few Clippers fans (besides Billy Crystal) wants to admit to be Clippers fans. One can see why.
Clippers fans are the kind of people who like Kenny G over Kamasi Washington, Rush Over Pink Floyd, Kanye over Snoop, Dream Theater over Nirvana, Captain Beefheart over Zappa.
Clippers fans are the victims of today’s NBA; victims of having the wrong perception / poor judgment.

Sorry not a good comparison. At least the formers you mentioned have some actual artistic clout.
The comparison should be the drug addict drummist on the side of the tourist road in Venice Beach.

Will always have a soft spot for LAC, being able to goto like 3-5 games a year for free (my parents get really nice tix from the bank) and catching the Clips during their last 2 hey days (Elton Brand Era, Lob CIty), was always a good way to plan a simple and fun date. It was hard for me to want to goto Laker games when they were good, as i didnt want to pay the high ticket prices, for seats that dont suck, sure i'd catch the occasional game in a suite every year, but was no guarantee. When the Lakers started sucking i didnt want to go unless I have some amazing free seats. The year we had Lin i caught at least 10 games since i'm a huge Lin fan, after that, the post Kobe era was brutal to watch when they were coached by Scott and Walton. I mean i dunno how much ISO Sacre (to obviously tank) i could stomach to watch, at least in the Walton era we had some high draft picks to have wishes and dreams over. What was crazy, when the Clippers werent any good, they were still watchable, when the Lakers were bad... ughhhh.
I find myself lucky able to watch games from 2 teams in LA. I'll always want both clubs to do well, and this year was gonna be awesome, until the Clips choked like bitches and ruined the epic all LA series. Oh well, prolly a good thing, i'd imagine the Clips woulda put up more of a fight with a ref assist, to make things go 7, for maximum ratings. Thus heading into the Finals all exhausted and beat up.
