If I were Rondo, I would have opted out too. I would love for him to come back. Its a joy to watch him play come playoff time, but only at the right amount. He was obviously a steal at $2.5 million. He should be getting around $6-10 million.

I didn't watch the playoffs... I came by every now and then and saw the comments on Rondo. Noticed that the Rondo haters didn't post much in the game threads.

Rondo is the only PG on the team in all reality and seems to be a high need. Maybe we have a plan to get that 3rd star somehow but my guess is that he comes back.

I’m wondering if KCP is looking at this and considering his options as well.

I’m thinking that KCP like most free agents with player option will opt in. There’s a theory that almost all of them (PO) will opt in because of Covid. No live games equates to less revenue equates to stagnant cap equates to lower priced contracts or less fat contracts.

I agree with what your take on Rondo opting out because he performed in the playoffs at the value of a $10-15M player. He gets paid $2.5M now? Can’t blame him for wanting one last good contract. I hope he takes the MLE and stays with us and retires a Laker.

Well, KCP EXCEEDED everyone's expections and don't forget his agent is Rich Paul, Lebron's agent who also wants to get paid, so I imagine Lebron putting pressure on Rob to give KCP a substantial increase so he's agent can ALSO get a raise. His other client is Kieff Morris who also shot pretty well in the playoffs, 42% from 3pt area and he's not that useless as he can defend and switch better in the perimeter than Dwight and JMG.
About Rondo, Rob can do what Riley did to Udonis Haslem, make a wink wink deal. Haslem has NOT PLAYED for the past 4 years now and still listed as a player(last season he made 2.5 mil) even at 40 YEARS OLD!!Why, Dallas offered him 12 mil/year several years ago and he intriguingly DECLINED!!! I find it weird that Adam Silver has NEVER QUESTIONED that deal, but hey.... I guess, it's not questionable if instead just hire Haslem as an assistant and pay him 2.5 mil... oh well.

Go after Rondo with what, A scooter? Clippers are over the cap, unless they use the 9 mil exception, they also likely will lose players like Reggie jackson, Morris, Harrell, and Patterson and btw, they ALL have capholds.
good read,

Other things that are not yet known are the salary cap and luxury tax figures that teams will need to abide by in 2020-21. Our own Keith Smith has assumed a $109 million salary cap with a $139 million luxury tax threshold from his reporting on the subject and its those figures that will populate the data contained within this series of posts.

Projected Team Salary
$150,824,219

Things are pretty straight for the Clippers. Do they keep Joakim Noah at $2.7M? And will JaMychal Green opt in? The answer to both of those are probably yes. Then all eyes turn to a new deal for Montrezl Harrell, retaining Marcus Morris and filling out the rest of the bench with veterans. (@KeithSmithNBA)

Cap Space Forecast
-$41,684,219 (14th out of 30). $21,316,063 under the Luxury Tax.

Keep Rondo on the right side of town. THT and Caruso can handle of the regular season grind.

Clippers owner is the richest in all pro sports. He can make things happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if they did offer Rondo the mid-level exception.

Rajon should be smart right now. He has aspirations of becoming a GM, according to himself. Where better to learn than with the GFOAT. If he goes to the Clippers, I don’t see him ever working for us again.

Early Bird rights for Rondo allow the Lakers to offer him 2yrs 175% of previous salary (2.5M), so roughly 9M over two years, which seems fair.

Rondo does make sense for the Clippers. That will be the hard one here. He may very well be offered the TPMLE from Clips at 6M for 3 years.

He could make sense, but there's a real risk that him and Kawhi wont get along.

Rondo is gonna try to win wherever he goes. It’d start out well, the question is how soon Rajon realizes that KL is a primadonna.

Well, he probably knows already. Problem is that he doesn't realize that he's a primadonna himself. That goes for Kawhi too.
