2020 draft thread (LA pick #28) Needs, targets, ideas
Not sure if this thread has been made yet.
The Lakers own the 28th pick in the 2020 draft.
How do you think we should use the pick. Draft best available player, best fit, trade down, up?
Tankathon.com have us picking Desmond Bane (6'5'' SG, senior, shooter)
The Ringer have us picking Robert Woodard II (6'7'' wing, soph, defensive wing who might be able to shoot)
Etc.
Personally, i feel quite confident in the Lakers' ability to find impactfull players late in the draft, although they guys they select ALWAYS baffle the hell out of me when it happens. Given that we will have guys that are going to earn a lot of money i think getting some young, cheap players on the books for development is a good idea.
My picks: Tyler Bey, Josh Green, Desmond Bane, Robert Woodard.
Thoughts?

The typical lakers scouting profile for late first round picks is a junior or senior year player with high basketball IQ and an nba ready physique.

the same every year, a guard with the handles and balls to take a off-the-dribble 3 point coming over a screen

If Josh Green was there somehow at 28 it would be great (no bias at all i assure you ). Realistically though what about Jahmi'us Ramsey.
I'd take whoever falls though in the draft, ideally if RJ Hampton, Josh Green, Pokusevski (only non guard other than Nesmith or Bey that may slip out of the lottery i'd take), Cole Anthony, Devin Vassell (dream scenario given what we need) if we remain in the draft and don't trade completely out of the draft (which i still think is far more likely)

Let’s pick whomever Pelinka and young Buss have scouted.

SF: LBJ / Prince / Reddish / Windler
PF: Rui / Vando(IL) / LBJ
CTR: AD / Hayes / Wood
Modern era NBA titles:
LAL 11, CHI 6, SAS 5, BOS 5, GSW 4

Re: 2020 draft thread (LA pick #28) Needs, targets, ideas
Guard:
Avery Bradley
Rondo
Caruso
HTH
I am comfortable with our guards. We might lose a Rondo if a team signs him for a LT deal but I think he returns. We do have AB who should return too.
I think we really need to improve our wing defense and outside shooting.
3&D Wing:
Nwora
Bane
Paul Reed
Bey
McDaniels
Josh Green
Others...
I like Woodard too but don’t think he is a good shooter. That might take some time to develop if possible.
Late pick (add SRP)/Undrafted pick:
Lamine Diane lacks 3 but has everything else. Diamond!!

Re: 2020 draft thread (LA pick #28) Needs, targets, ideas
Ok, I never do this because I don’t follow college basketball but watching that video ^ I think Cassius Stanley meets our needs. We need young freakish athleticism and it may allow us to not have to trade for an athletic wing like Josh Jackson.
However, I think and hope Pelinka will trade the pick in a package for Bertans. We’re not in long term rebuild mode. Win now is the MO.

If the Lakers keep their pick I like Tyrell Terry. He looks like he’s barely scratching the surface.

Desmond Bane will be my pick if he’s remaining (estimated 20-30 range). I really think he’s ready to contribute and will at least be a spot up shooter (arguably one of the best in this draft) with fresh legs and a good head on his shoulder.

I hear Bane’s stock is going up from 2nd round to first rounder now for sure.
He would be a great get for us at that number. I also wouldn’t mind trading down to add assets this year and in the future.
UD picks could be good too. I think there are a ton that goes undrafted yet can add value. Lots of depth here.

I would like someone that can make the open three but the staff has been really good with the draft so i will trust them in making this pick.

We need a 6'7+ beefy wing w a high motor and ready to contribute from the get go. Not the most athletic or talented , but someone wise enough to buy into team defense and humble towards staff and ad and LeBron

If we end up keeping the pick, I like the idea of pick up either a point guard that can eventually provide a point of difference from Rondo and LeBron (especially if Rondo leaves/gets old), or a wing with real solid 3&D potential
Guards:
Malachi Flynn
Theo Maledon
Grant Riller
Cassius Winston
Tre Jones
Wings:
Josh Green
Desmond Bane
Jordan Nwora
I also like Killian Tillie a lot. He'd easily be a first round talent if not for his injuries, I'd take a flier on him

Yes, it's too early and yes, Evan Mobley would be a lottery pick but his brother Isaiah I think would be the Mike Conley (oversight) of the next draft.

Cody Riley of UCLA looks decent too.
