I like that Kuz backed himself to be worth more in a couple years. I think it's a slight overpay based on his current play but he likely improves this season and this salary becom a a decent hedge

Was about to say that was fair given the money thrown around these days but Kuz gotta earn that. JC earns about the same per year and his impact with Utah is far greater with what Kuz brings. Hope he'll be consistent.

I like this deal quite a lot. We don't lose Kuz if we didn't sign an offer sheet this year and it's a very tradable contract if we were to seek a big upgrade during trade deadline or next season. As for Kuz, he's betting on himself to get a bigger contract when he's 28 so good for him. I'm hoping the flashes we saw during the preseason and the rumblings when hearing Davis & LeBron rave about Kuz this year will give us a hint of what's to come this year. I'm really hoping he takes that next step and becomes a consistent 15-17 point scorer with solid defense and around 38% from 3. It's always that bit extra to root for the guys you drafted, even though Kuz has cost me some years at the backend of my life for his mistakes.

I think there is a 6 month restriction to trading a player who signs an extension. So Kuz cannot be traded until the offseason because 6 months is after the trade deadline. Basically, now Kuz has a no trade this season

Which is really good for him because that means for the first time since he came here he has one role, one position, and no trade hanging over his head at a deadline. He can actually relax and just play
Year 1 - he was the unknown of the group and used as a sub and scorer
Year 2 - Luke started him but he tried him as a small 5 to start the year for no reason. Then moved him to stretch 4 and he averaged 19 a night and was the most consistent starter not named Bron. He almost was a throw in to Magic’s AD trade too
Year 3 - He got hurt at team USA, missed all of camp, lost his starting role, and was the only asset dangled in trade talks. He started a handful of games and was the automatic 21 points in starts and we won games. He got moved to the wing after the deadline with Kieff was signed and then had the season cutoff. Went to the bubble and played the 4th most minutes on a title team, averaged double digits his first playoffs, but dealt with a lot of internet hate.
Year 4 - He for his camp, got to play in preseason, got his money. He admitted out loud he didn’t know what his role was with the team but Bron and AD were adamant they see him as an important piece especially AD

Is that policy still in place even though its a shortened season?

Probably, but it’s either that or the salary restriction on extend and trades... He could only have gotten a 105% raise over his current year salary, and 5% a year raises each of the 3 years.
He’s over that so I’m pretty sure he’s untradeable now....
I think Kuz has something on someone with the Lakers... I have a feeling this is going to be the contract we all look back on and curse... Hope he proves me wrong.

It is essentially a 2 year deal for him that works so he can see what his role will be with the team and choose to stay or not
Now if this was a mitch deal Kuz would have had 5 years of this money lol

That's a nice deal for a still improving wing whose going to absorb a lot of minutes this season.
Now lets hope we get Caruso tied down as well.

Not ideal to be immediately saying "that's tradable," especially since he can't be traded this season if I understand the rules and the amounts (I may not, in which case I'd give tis a far better grade as an administrative master stroke). But it's not a silly mega years deal and it's not crazy mega dollars. Lets everyone focus on playing great ball without the Kuzma Question looming. Maybe it will even clear his head out a bit. And he got something good- player option- in case he feels he's worth more and should try to get more down the line. I'm the world's biggest Kuzma hater but can live with this given there's no scrap heap vet min player out there who's any better and we can always be loudly calling for THT to get his deserved minutes over Kuz once Kuz racks up enough bone headed pressure situation mistakes this year lol.
Having said that, boy does Derrick Rose look excellent so far this year.

I said it last season and it was premature; he’s about to break out. I’ll repeat it now.
Nobody will want to trade him at this price after he shows what he can really do.
It’s a smart deal for Kuz, too. We’re actually paying him fairly for his contribution to date, not paying for his potential. After year two of this deal, he can strike it big in FA if he wants. (And never win a ring again...)
Great deal for the Lakers, great deal for Kuzma. Fair deal all around. His injury messed up his contract timing.
