KUZ WAS TOP 25 IN DEF WIN SHARES UNDER FRANK AND TOP 90 PERCENTILE AS AN ISO DEFENDER LAST YEARtamaraw08 wrote:SlimShady83 wrote:I think he'll stay as long as Bron is here ... After Bron retires probably lose him?
We will see if Vogel can truly make this present team play good defense now that KCP, Caruso and Kuzma are gone. KCP was tasked to chase quick PGs like Schroder. Caruso can guard 3 positions and rotate to taller shooters, Kyle is not exactly a lock up defender but he’s a hardworker.
They hired Bazemore and Ariza and the challenge is not over relying on them and not benching shooters like Ellington and Monk.

I mean if he can get that out of Kuzma, he can get somethign out of others. Hell he would have made Ingram and Ball so much better

Second year, we had the best statistical defense in the league despite so many injuries which is his bread and butter.
We're not going to find a better coach right now to replace him so the extension makes sense.

First year, Lakers had Danny Green, KCP, Caruso, Kuzma with Dwight and McGhee.
2nd year, Matthews replaced Green with a motivated speedster Schroder while benching Marc and Harrell because they can’t switch to perimeter shooters.
This season, no more KCP, Caruso and Kuzma, probably Matthews too, In comes Ellington, Melo, Nunn, let us see if he has this great ability to coach these guys to play defense and not bench them and not over rely on Bazemore and Ariza.

You might be the only one who still thinks Vogel needs to prove that coaching top defensive teams wasn't a fluke. Caruso is probably the only player we'll miss on defense. Ariza has not been a good defender in years.
