The Staples Center will soon be known as Crypto.com Arena, Crypto announced on Tuesday. The name change will occur Dec. 25 and is part of a 20-year agreement that believed to be the largest venue naming rights deal in U.S. history to date, sources tell The Athletic.

$700 million dollar deal.

Not sure how I feel about this, but got to get with the times now. So long Staples Center...

The Great Western Forum had the best ring to it.

This is simply where we are in society.

There are only a handful of stadiums/arenas that don't have naming rights -- Cowboy Stadium, Yankee Stadium, Fenway, Dodger Stadium, etc.

I don't get it.

Arena is already ancient by today's standards, one of the oldest in the league. God forbid it will still stand 20 years from now.

After the Clippers move their ass out, no way the FO doesn't think of a new arena for ourselvez down the line. Ballmer will probably builda state of the art new stadium, can't have the **** Clippers with a better place to play in LA.

Sure, the Kings and Sparks will probably stay here but I doubt the new sponsors made the 20 year deal thinking of them.

Sounds like you will need a magic decoder ring to get in the building.

I think they're going to start accepting all sorts of crypto coin as payment at the arena. The name is meh, but the idea is not bad.

At least it's not Porn-Hub center.

I'm waiting for that. Give it another 10 years or so

How long did they buy the naming rights for? I'm just wondering what happens after crypto.com no longer exists.

edit: sorry, should have read the OP. 20 years. Man, I'd make a bet on that brand being gone by then but I don't want to wait 20 years for the payout, because the bookie won't be around either.

Going from an office goods supply company to cryptocurrency exchange is pretty much par for the time.

Although the terms and details haven’t been made public yet, what I think is interesting is that Staples had a deal worth 100 mil for the naming rights for ever. I wonder if the owners just said eff it and took the 700 mil from crypto and refunded the 100 mil to Staples for breaking the contract and everybody wins. Staples got free advertising for 21 years, the Arena owners make 600 mil and Crypto get their name on the Arena.
