SSaR: Lakers had deals for Cam Reddish, Christian Wood, John Wall and Russell Westbrook fall apart before deadline

That isn’t to say the Lakers weren’t attempting to make a deal at the deadline. The Houston Rockets seemed the most likely — and potentially only — team willing to even discuss taking on Westbrook’s contract, and only because of their own situation with John Wall. The negotiations between the two sides centered on what else would be included around Westbrook and Wall, including the Lakers 2027 pick and potentially Horton-Tucker and other players from the Rockets.
If Houston had their way, Daniel Theis would have been included in the deal as a cost-cutting measure for them. According to Brian Windhorst on ESPN, another, more appealing name for the Lakers may have also been discussed.
Prior to him being traded to New York, the Lakers reportedly offered a pair of second round picks for Cam Reddish to the Hawks. On Wednesday, the Lakers were reportedly in “aggressive” pursuit of Reddish via a three-team deal that obviously didn’t manifest, either.
If the Lakers were looking to package some second round picks and some of the aforementioned veterans for Reddish to potentially open up a roster spot as well, it would make sense with a number of previous reports. Ultimately, neither the Lakers nor the Knicks made a move on Thursday, with both deciding to sit in the messes they’ve made and stand pat at the trade deadline.

I prefer the FO failing to make deals vs the gigantic poop of the one they did make for this year

If that offer was truly on the table with Gordon or Wood.. it's an absolute travesty the deal isn't done. And Rob Pelinka should be fired.

I know a lot of people like to think the 2027 first rounder is just a worthless pick that should be given away, but I get why the FO doesn't want to move it. LeBron is 38 and there is a high probability that he either retires or leaves us in the next couple of years. AD was supposed to be the next building block but he has looked nothing like that in the last couple of years. A rebuild might be coming to us sooner than we all want. That 27 first rounder could very well be a high lottery pick when it's all said and done. We can't sell that out just for LeBron to get another one of his friends a job on our team.

I think Wall+Wood for Westbrook+THT+FRP is too risky. No idea what Wall looks like and you're giving up THT+FRP. I think Wood is nice though no guarantee of a better team without seeing Wall.

It moves AD back to power forward where he’s a beast defensively compared to center where his O goes up but D drops because he can’t contest every pick and roll while having someone behind him at the basket. Woods also is hitting 36% of his threes as the main focus in Houston so he offers spacing, so bye bye Ariza starting. Sliding Bron down makes the team bigger and better defensively too on the wing. Monk sticks at the 2 over Bradley and his fake hustle, people who thought he was comparable to KCP on defense are stupid.
At the point it becomes Wall is smarter than Russ and even if he doesn’t play, at least you have a better one terror and perimeter shooting. Tucker has sucked on both ends all year,Russ has sucked on both ends all year, and them sucking limits AD and Bron when they play with them. At best you get wall to be a 15 and 7 player who even when he was in Washington took pride in playing defense. At worse you get Bron at point guard and just have to put a 5th starter in if wall doesn’t pan out. Hell wall would be more receptive to coming off the bench too probably than Russ.

The deal in my eyes is THT and the pick for Wood. Which you do every time.
Getting rid of Russ is just another positive of the deal. Wall would be comfortable coming off the bench to start things off and if he’s good, I’m sure he’d earn a starting spot eventually. His catch and shoot numbers are significantly better than Russ and while he may not be as talented of a passer as Russ, he makes better decisions with the ball and usually makes the right passes instead of nonsense.
That’s a horrible, horrible failure by the front office if true.

I have a feeling Rockets probably said no to the THT + FRP for Wood thing. They have a lot of young guards and don't need THT, and a 2027 first round pick is very mediocre return for Woods.

The buyout options look better than the guys Lakers could have traded for tbh.
Schroeder or Harris would allow Lakers to stop play Bradley.
Bembry is a good add for 3+D small wing.
Muscala would be an awesome get for spacing the floor and adding rebounding.

If Lakers bring back Schroeder I'm done watching Lakers until he leaves, maybe even done until Bron retires

Why? He's a significant upgrade of Bradley. And Bradley has to get minutes because of Vogels defensive schemes. So it is a simple way to upgrade the team.

If Pelinka can get Moses Brown, Schröder and Gary Harris in the buyout market to replace DeAndre, Bradley and Bazemore, it’ll be a minor salvation and gives Lebron and Davis a fighting chance to win a round or two in the playoffs.

Looks like we’re after Dragic in the buyout market . GSW is also interested.
I can’t see him picking us over GSW though.
If we can get him, he’ll play a lot with the first team and Russ gets less minutes which is ideal.

These AHoles can't get rid of THT, a player they fought so hard to keep over Caruso, plus much more

Didn't the Lakers ghost Dennis in the offseason? What makes people think he's gonna be interested in playing for this team again?

Appeal to his competitive spirit. Tell him he will be getting much of WB's minutes. Yeah...he can go GET a ring in GS, but if he comes here he can WIN a ring.
Hmmm...that sounded better in my head, than when I wrote it out. I'd prob take GS too.

I think if Dennis is bought out then he's coming back.
