It's time for the Lakers to get a dynamic young guard

Not sure who this player is, but I think it would reinvigorate both the team and the fans. Lakers are known for having great bigs, but they also had some great guards/small forwards. Baylor, West, Magic, Worthey, Kobe, etc. Time for the Lakers to get ballsy and acquire a dynamic young guard (perhaps before their value is at it's peak). All players should be on the table for this type of player.

It could have been Darius Garland but Pelinka had to throw everything into the AD trade before Griffin even asked, so he could clear cap space to pay some past expiry date geezer with name recognition to warm the bench.

The thing that drives me crazy to this day about that deal:

Was Josh Hart really needed? I mean, seriously - A $1.7M salary? If the Lakers said "NO" to that, are the Pelicans really going to decline that deal without Josh Hart?

Ingram, Lonzo, #4, 2 other 1st rounders and 2 pick swamps/deferments isn't getting that deal done?

Drives me nuts. Josh Hart would've been a very valuable player in the Championship year and ensuing years.

Yes, Josh hart and his salary were literally needed to make the money work. It had to be him or Kuzma.

The Lakers need a dynamic young anything at this point... The need a star at any position and then they need to try to build around him...
If you have to trade AD to do it, you have to do that... If there is a young star player available, the Lakers need to do anything they can to get him... I mean like Franchise, top tier star... Not just all star...

If there isn't, then get serious about building around AD and LeBron... Block LeBron's number and only talk to Klutch if you want them to do something for you, not the other way around...

It's going to take a lot of right talent and luck to get a core built around AD and LeBron to the finals from here on out, but I don't think it's impossible. And it's better than just blowing it up and sucking for another 10 years while you wait to either draft the right guys or convince the right star to play here... Because it's not as cool as it used to be.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I think AD must go. We need to start the rebuilding process now. I do not see a core of Lebron and AD ever winning another championship. Not even close. Lebron turns 38 this year and AD while only 29 has a 35 year old body. There are at least 5 teams out west that are already ahead of us or currently have a core that will soon eclipse just about anything Lebron and AD are capable of doing. I'd much rather roll the dice on a potential extended rebuild (if it means getting some young assets now) than to potentially lose Lebron for nothing or to have AD at a distressed value. Another season like the past 2 for AD and we're likely to only fetch an expiring + fringe assets in return for any AD trade.

With what?

No picks, No young talent, no bargain contracts, No capspace.

No one is giving up a young star guard for LAL assets outside AD or LBJ. Maybe not even then.

We do need youth and athleticism and energy, but it is hard to get that with no assets. We could've gotten Desmond Bane, who would've fit this team like a glove, but of course, Pelinka was too busy shipping out that pick for Schroeder. At this point, our best hope is to do everything within our power to acquire some draft pick, any draft pick, and hope we find a diamond in the rough.

We can also try to take a chance on some former lottery picks that never panned out, like a Josh Jackson or Cam Reddish, and see if those guys can do something for us. We absolutely cannot focus on name recognition any more, have to go for youth and potential at this point. I don't care if LeBron wants to get six more of his friends jobs, we need to do whats right for the team.

Dejounte Murray. Spurs might want to sell high on him so IDK what Assets the Lakers have.

De'aaron Fox might be a good option too and he could reunite with Monk.

If we know anything from Pelinka, he'll swing extremely to the youth and athleticism next season.

Meh. We’re probably just looking for our next Westbrook. This FO/LeBron doesn’t know how to GM.

Who would want to give up a dynamic young guard for Westbrook?

I'm not saying trade Westbrook for such a player. I'm just saying, in general we should keep an eye out for this type of player. I mean, AD has some value still, right? The deal does not need to be directly related to such a player, but it could also be indirectly.

^ An example would be Gary Trent Jr. At this point, he just seems like a good young three and D SG, but he still has potential to become better. Look at the steps Hield took this year.

He’s a solid player.

LAL do not have the assets to get him.

Who would want to give up a dynamic young guard for Westbrook?

Not saying it’s realistic but that and TNT is what we have.

Next year in February a crashing team with a young PG who wants to win (be traded) might consider using a $44M expiring for a semi rebuild.

So, some team is going to take on $44 million and give up a nice guard (and whatever else is needed to match salaries) to bail out LAL because reasons?

You asked what we had to offer. I said it’s not realistic. What’s up?
