They used their very precious 1 and only MLE on a guy who shot 31.4% from 3 because……. He’s a great wing defender, 5 times better than Stanley Johnson ? Or he’s a Klutch client? Are other teams in hot pursuit of this kid, that is why pulled the trigger that early? … just like THT who didn’t actually got offered anything by other teams, just give him his $

6 or 7 spectacular dunks from the clip.... 21 mins/game for first 2 seasons in GSW, then.... under 14 mins/game last season, what happened to him there?

This is the case here where you are questioning why a seller is selling his mint Omega watch so cheap on craigslist (maybe something undisclosed, repairs, fake, stolen, defective, etc)
You find out the dude is just desperate to unload so he can go nab that Rolex deal that is waiting for him.
You just got yourself a legitimate Omega for a freaking great price

Hopefully this is the main reason.

Is he a much better defender than Stanley Johnson, Brown and JTA? If yes why Get these guys in the first place. Dont they just duplicate roles?
He's extremely athletic. Pelinka convinced himself last year that he went wrong by signing wily veterans, so he over-compensated this year by focusing solely on young, active, explosive guys.
This is my issue with this dude. He doesn't understand nuance. Pelinka goes from "Age doesn't matter." to "We must get young guys who can jump really high because we're too slow."
It all adds up to leadership that clearly lacks a vision that is rooted in reality. Monk, last year, was always going to be a good fit because he could shoot and he was athletic. With Walker, Pelinka was looking for Monk 2.0, but clearly the skillset is different. We know this, random posters on the internet, but the front office misses details all the time.
Thanks for the info, what about Brown? What do JTA and maybe Brown bring that Stanley Johnson can’t do on the court? Aren’t they just duplicating roles? Ham wants spacing for his 4 out 1 in offense, how can they punish teams from packing it in and clogging the lanes? Rob seems like Bipolar, 1 summer he’s signing many shooters who can’t defend and now the opposite…. Unless of course Kyrie and another shooter is coming…
Brown is longer than Johnson and more versatile. I think he's smarter as well, as Johnson always seemed to lack oncourt IQ. I'd trust Brown more than I would Johnson.
Tuscano-Anderson is a hustle guy with some athleticism. He is very similar to Johnson. I'd say Johnson is the better defender and Tuscano-Anderson is probably the better shooter. Both are more small PFs than natural SFs, and Johnson fills the role better because he's much beefier. Tuscano-Anderson is a third-string combo forward who plays when there's injuries or when the team needs a spark. I could say the same for Johnson, but he's less likely to be outmatched.
Depending on the roster construction, there's nothing wrong with duplicating roles though. This team needed wing defense, and there's nothing wrong with signing three guys who fill that need, having one or two of those guys on the deep bench ready if a guy gets hurt.
The issue is Walker. He is diffirent from JTA, Brown Jr., and Johnson, but his skillset is a luxury they don't need. Walker would flourish on a team that gets out and runs a lot. The Lakers have zero need for him just like they had zero need for Quinn Cook.

No he lost minutes to Kuminga too, as well as GP2 and OPJ.
He wouldn't shoot in many cases. so really a bad combo with Draymond.

At what point do the owners group wake up and understand that Klutch makes money off of people they represent? This is embarrassing.

I don’t think Jeannie care at all, as long as their contract meet her strict guidelines of not signing them to more than 2 years… I think there’s only 1 who has a player option for the 2nd year while the rest signed for 1 year. There’s at least 3 players I can think of who are better than Lonnie Walker for that MLE and I’m betting Rob is aware of this but those players want 2 years and Jeannie preferred 1 year, Rich Paul swoops in and offered Walker, them bam, Klutch gets a bigger cut than usual. Pops used that precious pick on Lonnie, patiently nurtured this guy for 4 years? Then just let him walk for nothing, just like that.

legendary Pops and the great RC Bufford might have lost their marbles of not even extending him… unless..

I mean... Everybody understands why we're signing guys to 1yr deals, and not multiple years... Right?

But who are going to be the big targets?
Here are the 2023 free agents:
https://www.spotrac.com/nba/free-agents/2023/Kyrie, Middleton, Wiggins and D'Angelo are the UFAs used to making over $30 million a year in this class. LBJ is also a UFA but he's expected to extend with the Lakers, right?
Here are the 2024 free agents:
Kawhi, Klay, Middleton (if not extended in 2023), Siakam, McCollum, Jaylen Brown, Draymond Green are the big earners.
Can the Lakers lure any of them from their teams?

Maybe Kyrie... If we trade for him, we'll have to extend him, right? And if everything works with that... He's a great fit and instantly converts AD/LeBron into a powerhouse... Then, we're going to want to build around and compliment them...
Flexibility is the most important thing right now...

We've had the "sign the big FA plan in _____" plan going on a decade now.... We've become the 2000's Knicks.

It was really Porter's arrival. He was the main guy competing for backup PF/C/very occasional SF minutes with JTA. Kunminga got a few as well later in the year. For the playoffs it was Porter who stayed in the rotation due to his reliable 3-point shooting. JTA (and Kunminga) are athletic with marginal 3-point shooting while Porter is less athletic (after injuries) but a reliable 3-point threat. With Green a poor 3-point shooter and Looney not taking 3's GS needed Porter's shooting in the PF/C rotation.
Overall he's a good 11-12th man. Can step in and play a significant rotation role as injuries hit without really hurting the team. Good value on a min salary but not any more. When he was playing big minutes for GS it was a sign of depth issues (either from injuries in spots this season or poor roster depth the last two years).

If they trade for him now, they don't have to extend him right away, just like what Toronto did to Kawhi. If that happens, Lakers will have about 10 months to evaluate his overall Health, physical, mental and emotional if he is truly fits with this team. I don't understand this, just sign 1 year deals.
