Shams: Rui Hachimura to Lakers

Post#1 » by Danny Darko » Mon Jan 23, 2023 5:45 pm

Thoughts?

We need a big wing, not a small PF... but that deal seems like a good value.

For Nunn heck yeah he is. You'd be getting him basically for free.

Vastly superior player to Troy Brown who is getting 30 ish minutes a game nowadays.

Man. This is great for LAL. Rui is a REALLY good player. Wizards are dumb - betting on Kuzma.

This is a great pickup. Moves Bev to the bench.

Don't know much about Rui. Anyone break down his game? How good is he? I don't like how he is a RFA but it was a cheap price

Loving this move. Rui will do well under Ham.

As usual, GB calls him trash, paraphrasing, and LAL giving up too much. Claiming Nunn was playing well.

I am in the minority here but I believe the Lakers are starting to click. I am not sure we need to move Westbrook. It takes time to build on-court chemistry.

I really like this love too.

We gave up three 2nd round picks in addition to Nunn but I still think it is very much worth it.

Best trade Pelinka has made to date for the Lakeshow...

We get longer, younger, more athletic & better...

Send Bev to Spurs for Richardson & we become a GREAT rebounding team...

Great gamble for you guys, don't think Rui is as good as some posts on here make it seem, but he does have untapped potential and maybe a change of scenery unlocks it.

Going to be interesting if this leads to cap space hopes being wiped as Rui has a decent cap hold (18M iirc) or a 8M QO.

Great deal. Rui has an $18 million dollar cap hold though, and they’ve already said they plan to re-sign him. His cap hold effectively ends any plans to go big time spending in FA this offseason.

I’m highly pleased about this move.

Which basically means we're going all in now, while adding multi-year salaries if necessary.

More deals are coming.

Rui can be used in a sign and trade, his caphold can be renounced and he can be signed to a cheaper contract or we could sign a player that that’s 120% of our remaining capspace. All I’m saying is this doesn’t mean anything in regards to free agents. Besides the free agent market this year is pretty weak.

Solid talent pick up for very little, but very questionable fit. Doubt Bron is the least bit thrilled about this move. It’s been pretty clear for quite some time now that Pelinka doesn’t know how to build a team. Another weak defender with questionable outside shooting is right on par. Theirs is some upside to Rui though so I gotta give him Pelinka that.

You can't just look up his 3P% to judge the fit. Rui has shot the corner threes at better than 40% this year and last year, in Ham's offense those will comprise the bulk of his three-point attempts. His two-point shooting percentage has improved even as the share of his two-point baskets that are assisted has decreased, meaning he's improved at creating his own shots which is a skill we desperately need. I like this move a lot. I don't really care how he's defended in Washington, he has the physical tools and that team has been a mess. I'm pretty confident we'll see good effort on defense and we don't need him to be Kawhi Leonard. As we saw with Kuzma, a defender with size next to LeBron and AD goes along way toward unlocking versatile defensive lineups.

I'd mostly given up on a Russ trade but I really, really hope we do it now. We're not going to have significant cap space anyway when we extend Rui so no use in letting Russ expire. I'm seeing some start to say we should sign Russ to a longer deal after this year, which would be a mistake IMO. He's going to be 35 in November and despite his better play this year he's still an actively bad basketball fit with LeBron. Move him for a couple of rotation pieces, have a core locked in for next year and focus on making some moves on the edges.

I like the deal. Nunn wasn't really working out, so a couple 2nd rounders for a player that has good chemistry with Russ and Bryant is a solid trade. Only concern is the expiring contract and what he's going to potentially cost in the offseason.
