Boston stuck it out with their youth... chipped away over a number of years building around them... built meaningful depth and stayed away from the Stars with hangers on, FA/Trade BS. Not only are they good, they are young and have not only their picks but others as well over the next few years I believe.
Wake up the Buss Family... why? They are looking for another Nash/Howard summer!

Another sad birthday for me.
I remember being a mess watching Shaq win a chip in Miami, also Lebron with the freaking Wade with the Heat too.

Yep.....traded their stars to Brooklyn for a bunch of picks. Guess they realized there wouldn't be another title coming out of that group. Seems like a pretty good plan. Too bad we won't be doing that.

I personally don’t count their 12 ABA rings but everyone else does. There were 11 teams in that league. See sig.

Could be worse. Could have been the 76ers and traded up for Fultz. I sure ate crow on that one.

That was one of the all time highway robberies, got a lot of unprotected picks for washed Pierce and KG. Ainge keeps getting one-sided deals.
I believe the Nets picks led to both Brown and Tatum, both drafted #3 in consecutive drafts.
And yeah, the scouting was all wrong that year, Fultz and then Ball.
I think Lakers were always going to draft Ball though, because he got so much pub at UCLA that year. He did help the Lakers get AD and he might have turned into at least a solid starter if he didn't have the injuries. Lonzo is only 26, about to turn 27 in the fall, so his career isn't necessarily over but maybe he could have a post-traumatic injury renaissance as a key rotation piece on a top contender like Shaun Livingston, another very high lotto pick who was derailed by a serious injury.

Had Lonzo not had the injuries, he coulda been a decent player. Had he then gone on to develop a decent shot (seems impossible, with ugly sh** he brought) I think the guy coulda been a really, really good player. Like a Sam Cassell level player (level....not TYPE).
I think the Lakers fell hard for the hype....but let's be fair...had we not taken him, he woulda gone top 6. There were alot of people high on his court vision. The guy was an amazing passer. I'm honestly so bummed it never worked out, mostly cause I think we all missed out on some amazing plays. Like I still rooted for him after. I wanted him to turn good. The NBA woulda been the better for it.
Magic coulda skipped the intro speech for the kid.....telling him we expected to see him up in the rafters. Too much.

I'm actually happy Boston got their 18th championship. I've felt this ever since we got our 17th. Here's why..
Lakers are famous legendary, and heroes are by definition, someone who has vanquished a worthy adversary.
Yes it is more an old school line of thinking but there is no merit in holding a certain status when all you want is for your competition to be mediocre. Our historic competition is Boston, no?
I congratulate them and lift them up on a nba pedestal, and I want the Lakers to again put up a picture of the Boston Celtics on their proverbial bathroom mirror and then eventually fist smash it after a minute long eye of the tiger stare, after finally training up to their level and being prepared.
I'm not the type to look at my neighbor in envy and wish him bad (deep in my heart) when he comes home w the promotion and a brand new luxury sports car in the garage. I'm the type who goes over and congratulates him and pick his brain on how he succeeds in his life
(not that I like luxury sports cars or can't succeed on my own mind you, lol, but you know what I mean). I dont want to be surrounded by losers. I want to be someone who can be on top amidst great people, not just be on top "by default".
Mamba mentality is what I'm getting at. Kobe wants the blueprints of all his enemies and wants to know how they tick. Because it's out of respect. Respect for the enemy, himself, and for the game.
