Lakers Summer league

Post#1 » by tamaraw08 » Sun Jul 7, 2024 4:14 am

I only saw the highlights, lost the the Kings.

Knecht didn't shoot well but looked poised.
Lewis looked good with his runners... Castleton looked decent...of course against prospects and draftees.
Yes, I am a sucker for 3pt shooters so Blake Hinton caught my eye.

Good size at 6-7, 235, if only they find a way to teach him how to play defense and not be another Ben MCLemore.

Hinson's a big dude but he moves really well
Really smooth with and without the ball
He shoots like Melo he's fun to watch but he def loves to let it fly whenever he gets a touch
They said he played football in highschool and he's still built for it. He plays defense like a footballer would

Armel Traore our other new 2-way was nice. Very active on both ends with a long reach, loved seeing him banging down low and boxing out, just not a lot of size or too great of a touch
Was Wemby's teammate in france

Don't see anyone helping defensively as much as a Reddish or Dinwiddie, but I wouldn't mind giving those mins to these guys and the Max's

Also, Khuse needs a contract

well I don't like Kuzi... he also seems to freeze out Bronny who isn't really looking for the ball or doing much... he also had an issue getting Knecht good looks, and Max Lewis looked awful outside of a few plays with speed bursts.

Haven't seen much, but I did notice him a couple games ago playing quite well. Noted his name to take a better look.

Bronny's D was good... 3 blocks and 2 steals. 5 rebounds too... I think he'll end up being a tenacious defender if nothing else, and I know why he's not trying to demand the ball, but honestly it would be better if he did.

Know Bronny has struggled with his shot but did you guys see Bronny full court pressure on Reed Sheppard?

That’s what he can provide plus switch on most players. Kid needs to just keep those shots up and become the wing 3&D that we need.

Knecht is a bonafide shooter. Reddick can help him get better looks and so on but his minutes should be based on his defense, where he has ways to go.

I like Castleton’s potential this year, again, like last year. He has grown since then, but should dominate the paint in a summer league game to merit being in our regular rotation. I’ve only seen half a game and snippets. How’s his defense, rebounding and handling on the break? Is he commanding the paint?

Traoré looked good from what I saw. Bronny can be a pest on defense.

Is Lewis not making a lot of noise yet, DD?
Since the 1976 merger LAL 11, CHI 6, BOS 6, SAS 5, GSW 4

PG: Luka / Vincent / Bronny
SG: Smart / Reaves / Knecht / Mañon
SF: LaRavia / Rui / Thiero
PF: Bron / Vando / Kleber
C: Ayton / Hayes / Koloko

Yeah, Disappointing performance so far for Lewis. Trying to showcase O and being mediocre on D. Knecht taking his spot and Bronny becoming the Defender with upside now.

Bronny & Lewis just don't look NBA ready rn to me honestly. That makes 5 guys on the roster that we can't depend on for anything good.

These guys could've been left in G League, rather than wasting roster spots on them.

Bronny and Lewis will spend their time in G-League. Out of the summer roster only bet is Knecht4 on the team to start and possibly Castleton down the line.

Castleton has been so so from what I've gotten to see and it kinda hurts to watch Jay Huff look like a guy about to make a leap into NBA rotational moments for someone else.

Hmm.. yeah. That's probably expected.

I just don't understand why we had to sign both of them and now have this problem of no empty roster spots. If anyone, it should've been Castleton.

Not seeing it with Castleton

Not strong enough to defend the paint or finish over smaller defenders, not quick enough to get out & defend

His improvement in shooting is nice but if he can't finish down low and be a threat off the pick & roll then idg the point of a big man

Could look different behind AD with guys being funnelled into them but I don't see him ever being better than CWood in any area

Not seeing the LAL Marc Gasol being reborn with him
We need a real defensive C developing in that 2way spot
Where are the toughest n baddest undrafted/gleague rebounders & finishers

100%

He's got decent moments, but it looks like he's gonna get eaten up when it gets real. Same with Kuhse. Some decent moments...seems to have a decent shot. Would be a beast at the local Y......but the big time? No way.

Knecht has a good shot. He's doing alot of attacking the rim from the limited amount I've watched. He's a scorer. Saw a couple plays where he got the ball back-court, and just bulldozed his way to the hoop J-Randle style. Made me miss Julius for a second. Not sure any of that is gonna translate to the real game. But he can hit those shots. Keep working with him. I'd be focusing on catch and shoot stuff personally.....but maybe they wanna give this guy a chance to see what he's got.

You don't know what you got in the summer league though....that's the problem with it. I am excited to see where Knecht will be...given a couple seasons in the nba to find his place. Shows he has at least some playmaking ability. And he can drain them. Improve both those skills...and we got ourselves a nice player.

Bronny shows great athleticism....something that will carry you a ways in the NBA. Has good insticts from what I've seen. But his game needs to get back in the oven. Still fine with grabing him at #55....but he needs a couple years.

The best thing for that kid, would be to disappear down in the D league for a year or two. But I'm sure he'll play game 1. Bad for us....bad for him.
