Stealing Shiny Stuff

Lakers should eye that 5th playoff seed if the Suns win the division.

Work get the W's and avoid the Spurs & Suns until the Lakers get hot.

It worked for Miami 2006 and the Cavs in 2007. Lakers can beat a top team and steal a trip to the Finals and from there pull a 2004 Detroit!
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

I was just thinking today... that the Lakers this year can be the Cavs of last year... Everyone is sleeping on us... Bynum is creeping up on people and we are killing right now... Hopefully we can draw a team like Denver in the first round and Dallas in the 2nd...

WCF HERE WE COME!!! LOL... Im seriously not scared of anyone (except Spurs and Celtics) the way we are playing right now

With every day our youngs getting more expierenced, with every good play we create more chemistry, with every stop we are starting to instill doubt on other teams, and with every win we are starting to believe more and more.

Its a process, but slowly, from the coaches to the players, and to the fans we are starting to think, just maybe, just maybe we might be good enough.

... but then there is Kobe Bryant, and Phil Jackson: to tell their young team, and their fans, that there is much more game to be played ... until the championship parade in LA in 2008.
Our virtues and our failings are inseparable, like force and matter. When they separate, man is no more.

Well unless if the Suns have a better record then us that would automatically put us in the 5th seed right? Anyone can confirm this? The top four go to division leaders.

There's only 3 divisions so the top 3 go to division winners.

Not really. Winning your division secures you a top 4 seed. This rule came into play because of the Spurs and Mavs facing in the 2nd round despite having the best and second best record IIRC.

Top 4 seeds are the 3 division winners + team with best record that didn't win a division. Those 4 teams are then ranked by record, so 2 teams from the same division can be nr 1 and 2.

The 4th seed doesn't automatically have home court advantage against the 5th seed either. If the 5th seed has a better record, that team will have home court advantage in round 1 despite not having a top 4 seed.

For me, it all comes down to whether or not the Spurs win the 1st seed.

If its the Spurs, I'd like to grab the 2 or 3 seed so we wouldn't face the Spurs until the conference championship.

That would give two other teams a chance at knocking them out or at least tiring them out for us (a la Golden State).

If its the Suns, I guess it doesn't matter if we were the 5th seed cause we'd play Portland or Denver and then the Suns in the 2nd round.

However you slice it its going to be a tough road to the finals and we will probably have to play 2 out of the "big 3" if we advance.

The biggest thing for me is avoiding the Spurs for as long as possible.

They can compete with our depth and they have more experience.

The Suns and Mavs are tough but I think we have enough pieces to compete with them this year.

Just heard somewhere that Grant Hill had an emergency apendectomy, so maybe the Suns will falter and we can take advantage.

sounds like the lot of you would like to take the Mike D'antoni route and hope and pray that the path of least resistance to the shiny stuff miraculously will present itself.

let's get some balls and egos and go after the number 1 spot without fear and without resorting to play down to get a favorable spot to avoid the likes of the Spurs and the Suns.

like Kobe likes to say "if we are gonna be the best then let's play against the best".
