Jerry West would welcome Knicks GM position

Who wants Knicks GM job?

Has the bizarre behavior of Isiah Thomas finally cost him? Jerry West and Jerry Colangelo eagerly await James Dolan's call. FYI: Contrary to inaccurate talk-show babble and an unswerving disregard for doing homework on all fronts by Daily News columnist Mitch Lawrence, both free agent executives would welcome the challenge to re-wire the Garden.

Izih needs to go, and Jerry should take over. It will not take more then few years before NY is back in the playoffs

It's not that he wanted to avoid LA, it's that he wanted to avoid ousting Mitch. If our GM spot was open, I'm sure he would take it.

Didn't he leave L.A. because he couldn't stand the pressure of trying to put together a championship team??? The NYC media would tear apart anyone that takes that job and doesn't turn the team around in a heartbeat...

Gonna be interesting if/when Nets move....

If "pressure" meant the owner not giving you due credit (cha-ching) and pimping his son to cramp your style, then yes, Jerry West left because he couldn't stand the pressure.

Not really, several good sources (Lazenby?) described the reasons for West's departure. Jerry Buss paying Phil the big bucks while keeping West on peanuts and the FO mess caused West to leave.

If that's not enough, the circumstantial evidence of Jerry West coming back in JUST TWO YEARS to the league's WORST team (in fact, the worst record in league history), signing the HIGHEST executive contract at the time should tell you exactly what was bothering Jerry West.

and oh yeah, if there's one person who can save the Knicks franchise in as little as one season, it's Jerry West. He did it for the Grizz.

Man, I love West and I wish the best for him. But that is like Magic going to GM the Celtics.

The Knicks v. Lakers were a rivalry in the 70's.

I am kind of happy with Mitch. He has tried to get rid of Odom and I am sure he is shopping Kwame. I am not West crazy like everybody else.

At first i was really against this and hope it didnt happen. But if jerry wants to be there, then i wish him the best. Plus if the knicks were competitive team and in the playoffs every year. Its best the entire league. Good Luck Jerry on whatever you do. We still love ya.

First of all, his name is "Isiah".

Secondly, you're overestimating Jerry West's abilities and underestimating how big of a mess the Knicks organization is.

There's no guarantee that Jerry West can fix that team.

I wouldn't wish the Knick's GM job on anybody, let alone Jerry West.
That said, if there is anyone that can rework that roster, I think it would be West. It would take a few years though. They have a lot of undesirable players and contracts.

Jerry West is a great GM and would do wonders with that team, somehow flip it around so that they are playoff bound. However it would take time and i do not know if that is something Dolan has, simply because it was years when Isiah came into play stating he could do the Job. The drama in NY is worse than it is in LA, and I would hate for his image to be ruined with the mess at NY. I really think that NY needs to lose the drama and let everything rest before someone can really come into play to fix them. There has been a ton of issues this season for NY and it just wouldnt be a great situation for West.

Wow, the 70s. I wasn't born yet. But I do know Bo Schembechler was born in Ohio and a grad assistant at Ohio State and became the Michigan head coach. And there isn't an NBA rivalry that compares to Ohio State-Michigan.
