I bet Marc Gasol gets a shot next year, but maybe a guy like Ratliff in the off season?

I dont think Kwame is the greatest, but he will be a decent backup to Bynum. He has an expiring contract with us and we probably will try to give him something under MLE if we cannot grab someone say Kurt Thomas whom i think will be a much better fit for us than kwame. Or as DanTown8587 stated Marc could be with us next year and that will be the backup we need.

If he is you know that will be scary, If Isaiah is still with the Knicks by the end of the season then you know Kwame would get a deal something like 5 yrs 70 mil

If we don't trade Kwame's contract before this season, we should try to work out an extension. He would be a nice role player and already knows the offense.

Problem is that players are arrogant and don't want to take big pay cuts.

The Lakers know what Kwame's worth and its only about 3 or 4 million dollars.

Another team desperate for size will be willing to give him 6 or 7 and the Lakers don't want to handicap themselves financially with a backup center.

And honestly, the fact that he knows the offense is very little incentive to resign him considering his turnover to ball touches ratio about 1/2.

^agreed. We should only try to sign him for under MLE, but have our sights on someone else. I do like Kurt Thomas or PJ brown, even with age i still feel they will be able to compliment this team more than Kwame. I prefer to have Kwame here right now then trying to trade him for instant offense simply because we need that big body in the playoffs. Someone just to clog the middle for Bynum to clean up.

Im staring to think i dont want kwame in a laker uniform even for a bag of chips per season. There is a fire that is burning with this team...(farmar, fish, Ronny, everyone). Kwame and Mihm are the only ones that have not shown what i see in everyone else on this team. Even Ariza has come in and is impressing.

I'm seriously leaning towards doing away with Mr Brown alltogether. Sometimes, subtraction is a great addition (Smush). We need to bring in Gasol, or sign someone that can blend in with the personality this team is taking on. Yes kwame has good man-defense. but lets face it: Kwame is a bum...strait up! Ask Steven Smith.

There is a second round rook or some undrafted Moon out there that can give what Kwame gives but has better mentality than Kwame. I believe it.

the hell with the injuries...look at his mentality in a contract yr. He almost would be happy being the third center off the bench. Kwame has got to go the only way i keep him is if he comes third off the bench plus <MLE if not then sorry Kwame, i just think its time to go in a different direction. The days of reliving the inheriting of MJ's bum are over. Everytime he does some dumb s***, i think of his wasted monstrous physique and Caron Butler. Lets part ways already.

If we are looking for a two way center who can contribute, why not give Patrick O'Bryant a shot? The kid's got size and has improved quite a big since his rookie season, but he doesn't fit in well with GS and rarely gets any minutes. He is the kind of guy who has a huge upside that we can use here.

Depends, if by two-way center who contribute you mean he can go to both starbucks and jamba juice and pick up some tasty beverages for the team, then you are right. If you mean he can play on our squad, you are sadly mistaken.

Next summer I want Kwame to do this (if we decide to bring him back):

Run, run and run some more to shed 20 pounds. Then play 1 on 1 basketball the entire summer to try and get his handles and jumper back. Find a good defensive player that wants to work with him and go at him hard.

If he's successful in bringing those parts of his game back, he'd be a very nice PF next to Bynum long term.

If you can stand seeing Kwame Brown pretending to be a basketball player on our squad, you should have no problem seeing Patrick O'Bryant. I mean, as long as POB can finish a layup around the basket and block more than one shot a game, he would already be a better player than Kwame "Tiny Hands" Brown.

With Bynum likely playing over 35 minutes a game, all we need is a big man who can come in and contribute for about 10 min a game. POB is not an all star, but he has what it takes to do that. Especially since we have Kareem to mentor him.

I agree he is about 10-20 pounds overweight and he has lost his muscle definition in his shoulders that he once had. He has lost confidence in alot of areas in his game. I think with the shedded poundage he will get more lift and be able to finish better. I already can tell he has lost a few pounds since he came back from injury.

People who don't think he cares is mistaken. Kwame has become pretty unselfish as a player but he does lack confidence. He just isn't flamboyant. Kurt Thomas would be an excellent plan b for the lakers if they can not sign Kwame.

He played well defensively last night and the lakers always seem to play well when he plays alot of minutes. He plays very smart defensively. It doesn't always show up in the box score unfortunately.

Kwame alters and blocks more than one shot a game if given 35 minutes a game. You look at the stat sheet and don't see Kwame's true value. Blocks is a great stat for defense but it doesn't show everything.

You think Patrick Obryant will be better than Kwame? You got to be kidding.

Do you not think Kareem can help Kwame?
