I believe I've seen this type of thread here before but I wasn't able to search it up. Regardless I wanted to be able to see everyone's opinion on it. A friend and me were having an Arguement on what player would be the better fit playing alongside Andrew Bynum. He said Ben Wallace would be a better fit because of his DPOY resume. I however thought Ben wouldn't be a good fit due to clogging the paint issues on the offensive end. I thought JO would be the better fit because his defensive capabilities as well along with his ability to post and play outside the paint. Giving Bynum his space to operate. So I ask the question, who's the better fit? If you believe someone else is, please elaborate.

JO, without question.

Ideally, someone like Nowitzki or Bosh.

I would take JO...no doubt....with Bynum's offensive skills we need some PF who is D oriented and also can take the 15-18 footer with ease.....this leave bynum in the paint to operate

Out of those two, JON, hands down because he would make it pretty much impossible for the opposition to keep us from scoring. Also, his defense would complement Bynum's better than Ben's defense would.

If we put aside reality, these would be my top five picks:

Elton Brand
Pau Gasol
Lamarcus Aldridge
David Lee
Emeka Okafor

A big who can defend, shoot and rebound is the ultimate fit next to him. Going by players who aren't big stars, I'd name guys like Kurt Thomas, Udonis Haslem, Antonio McDyess and Nick Collison. Paul Millsap is another player I'd love to have next to Bynum.

Among star players, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Elton Brand, Dirk Nowitzki, Pau Gasol, Chris Bosh etc. stand out.

Though JON is incredibly inefficient on offense, he's miles better overall than Ben Wallace there and he'd be a better fit if those 2 are the only 2 options.

Even when I tried to disregard reality, I deemed those ^ untouchable

a pf that can spot up and shoot that 15 footer whenever bynum is double teamed like a udonis haslem or antonio mcdyess would be a better fit imo.

Issues:
The key to any of these PF's is that they have at least some mobility and can step out and hit the midrange.

That includes Elton (pipe right now), JO, Pau (Ben Wallace's contract, age, and Kwame-like offense make him not even an after-thought at this point)

If the player is strictly a low block presence, that'll simply create congestion when Bynum gets back and Kobe and Bynum will have fewer chances of getting the ball into the paint cause teams will pack it in.

The one thing that LO does well next to Bynum is pop out around the high post and shoot that shot so I'd like the PF to be able to do that.

Defensively, I think it could potentially hurt aginst Dallas, Phx, and Golden State.

Against those teams we'd have to use our power to dominate (like Bynum does against the Suns) cause JO and Pau would have to guard Marion and Dirk on the other end.

On the other hand, it could also help us though against our two biggest rivals in the Spurs and Celtics.

Putting a JO on KG or Duncan, as opposed to Odom, will give us the power we need inside to matchup with those teams.

Conclusion:
I'm all for JO or Gasol at this point.

It will give us a post presence and second scorer until Bynum gets back and they can still fit in when he does.

Ben Wallace would compliment Bynum more but JO would make us better as a team.
See Ben would get rebounds and guard the better of the 4/5 and help on D alot so Bynum can rome but JO would make everybody else better. JO would take more shots away from Bynum and Wallace would do the opposite.

I think JON's efficiency would make a considerable jump if he played with the Lakers. I can't see him ever getting double-teamed with Kobe and Bynum going to work, so I think it's realistic that he'd be close to 50% if playing with the Lakers. Speculation, yes, but almost every player on the team has had a jump in efficiency as they were teamed up with Mr. Bryant.

JON's efficiency should go up.

It's interesting to look at the fg% of players next to Kobe as of late.

Lamar Odom? 4 highest fg%es of his career are the 4 years with Kobe.
Kwame Brown? 3 highest the 3 years with Kobe.
Chris Mihm? Career high the year he was healthy.
Smush Parker? Career high.
Derek Fisher? Career high.
Trevor Ariza? Career high (barely).
Vladimir Radmanovic? 2nd and 3rd best seasons of his career.

I've loved your posts and views regarding JO ever since I can remember. I think the exact same thing.

Chucky Atkins, the start of Caron Butler, etc.

JO would be awsome, especially if he accepted the role of the 2nd low post option. His D and rebounding alone would be tight. I also wouldnt mind seeing Camby at PF next to AB.
