The Player Appreciation Jinx Thread

Post#1 » by RJM » Mon Jan 21, 2008 1:36 am

Does anyone here notice that whenever we host a thread of some sort about a rotation player getting "appreciation", they're injured within the week? Take the Bynum Appreciation Thread for example. That thread picks up speed and then Bynum hurts himself against Memphis. Today I see an "Ariza Props" thread, and before the day is over we find out he's injured due to Lamar Odom's existence. We as Laker fans must take notice!

I dunno that's it a jinx as much as we're having really bad luck again, except this year the west is so competitive, we're gonna hafta fight just to stay in the playoff picture.

But hey, let's try it out: someone make a Kwame and Luke appreciation thread. Couldn't hurt, right?

As if the Lakers needed this to happen.

Forward Trevor Ariza was diagnosed with a fractured bone in his right foot after hurting it today at practice. Ariza will see foot specialist Kenneth Jung on Monday, at which point a timetable for his return will be determined.

It was unclear exactly how Ariza injured the fourth metatarsal in his foot, but he apparently came down on someone's foot.

"He got tangled up [with a teammate]," Coach Phil Jackson said a few minutes after Ariza left practice for X-rays at Centinela Hospital Medical Center.

Ariza became a fixture on the Lakers' second unit after being acquired from Orlando in November. He was averaging 6.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in 18 minutes a game.

Ariza, who also started three games, had been an active defender for the Lakers, who liked his length and speed.

The Lakers are without Andrew Bynum for at least seven more weeks and Chris Mihm for at least another week, although it will probably be longer than that until he returns.

where in this article did it say it was lamar?

He will be out 8 weeks is the word.

(from CL)

That's from the guy that broke the news of the Ariza trade and Bynum's amount of time out.

I'm sure Lamar was indirectly related. For example, he could have been the one bricking the three pointer causing Ariza's always-hustling behind to chase after the rebound. As Ariza expresses his hustle by leaping for the rebound, Lamar crashes the boards.

The rest is just plain unlucky.

I really really really appreciate the Suns, the Mavs, the Spurs, the Hornets, the Nuggets, the Blazers, the Warriors, the Rockets, the Jazz, the Celtics, and the Pistons... there I think I covered it.
