Post#1 » by kingkobe8 » Mon Jan 21, 2008 6:33 am

What do you guys think about moving farmar or sasha into the starting lineup and moving kobe into the sf position

That would mean more time for Critt which I'm all for. 15-20 minutes for Critt would be real nice.

so you want to make our 2nd unit ( who is one of our biggest assests) weaker and thinner?

I'd start Sasha but most likely Ronny would start and I hope he's physically ready to play 35 mpg for a 2 month stretch.

With Bynum and Ariza both injured the Bench Mob is over. We need to shake up the starting lineup somehow, because they haven't been producing the last few games.

Things we know:

1. Lamar can't play SF efficiently.
2. Kobe does.
3. Luke has been struggling mightily.

Say if the Lakers moved Sasha to the 2 and started with a lineup of:

Fisher
Sasha
Kobe
Lamar
Kwame

Then the bench wouldn't technically be strained too much, since they've been playing without Sasha. And moving Luke back to the bench would actually make it stronger (hoping he bounces back from his slump) than if he doesn't replace Ariza.

Right now we'd have a bench of:

Farmar
Sasha
? Karl ?
?
Ronny

I mean let's face it, we don't have a bench anymore. We can't do a five man rotation. I know starting Farmar would hurt our "bench" but we don't have much else, and Farmar running a team with just Sasha and Ronny isn't going to scare anybody.

The situation has changed, our depth is no longer a strength. We have to use whatever pieces are left to hold down the fort.

A shake-up is needed.

I don't think there's much of a second unit now. The starters will start logging in heavy minutes and there'll be a very small rotation if need be.

Odom and Kobe will take turns playing with the bench and Kwame will have to play a lot of minutes.

Simply no .. who will back up Sasha ? Critt is still to young and i believe if anything Odom will get more time at SF while when Rad gets back he will split with sf/pf

I would rather have Sasha on the second unit because he can still score. Walton is better on the floor with Kobe.

I don't think Phil has a choice but to send walton to the bench and play kobe at the 3. Our current line-up with no shake up is

fisher/farmar
kobe/sasha/crittenton
walton/???/karl
odom/turiaf
kwame/turiaf

If kobe were to play the 3 and sasha play the 2 our team would be much more balanced

fisher/farmar
sasha/crittenton
kobe/walton
odom/turiaf
kwame/mbenga?

Kobe should play the 3 for the sole reason that he can post up and get high percentage shots like MJ.

fisher/farmar
sasha/crittenton
kobe/walton
odom/turiaf
kwame/mbenga

I like that lineup for the time being and once Radman is back it should help.

I was really hoping to be wrong about Ariza's foot problems. Anyway our bench being weak is not as important as our starting 5 being pathetic so it's time to put Farmar as a starter and Kobe to the 3 yes.

Once Radmanovic returns he'll probably log minutes there but for now Odom will play about 15 mpg, Walton 20 mpg, and Kobe 13 mpg there.

Turiaf will play at PF to make up for those 15 or so mpg while Mbenga will get plenty of time at C.

Looks like you've got your wish today my man. Phil played Kobe at SF and Luke at PF for quite a long stretch today. Turiaf was pretty impressive at C and we even had the opportunity to have Farmar and Fisher in the backcourt at the sametime. :D

I must say this line up played really well last nite. I think they'll rack up more minutes now. I think that Lamar and Kobe would have to play with the second units more now. I think it could work for us until we get back to full power.

SF:Bryant
PF:Walton
C:Turiaf
SG:Vujacic
PG:Farmar

PF:Odom

Keep our starting lineup. Give big minutes to Sasha and Crittenton, their fresh legs and long range shooting can help us more than we believe. Walton is not a great player, but he runs the triangle nicely.

Many of us have hoped for Kobe to play the three for years now.

Personally, I've always thought it's the best position for him and I hope to see him there much more as his career will start winding down in a few years. He is the perfect triangle player to play the pinch post. It seems to be the most natural position for him. He is disgustingly efficient from there and he will continue to be, even when he starts getting older and slower.

With the emergence of Farmar and Crittenton, I think we might see much more of him at SF in the future. I'm all for it.
