Chris Webber has often criticized his former coach in Philadelphia Jim O'Brien, and on Monday O'Brien finally responded in a News-Journal article.

"In one of the first conversations I had with Chris Webber, I said, 'This is one of the ways we're going to use you offensively [down low with Kyle Korver on the outside],' " O'Brien said. "And he said, 'Coach, I don't do the low-post thing anymore.'"

"We just made a major trade to bring in this 6-[foot]-11 guy, and he said, 'No,' and I said, 'Yes, you do.'"

"Webber didn't practice at all that year prior to coming to us," he said. "I think he was just at the point where he didn't necessarily feel he was in need of practice or could practice. It became apparent that he was not going to give the Philadelphia 76ers everything that we had hoped for."

Sounds entirely reasonable to me. O'Brien did what you would expect, and Webber was going to be paid a lot of money to not listen.

If that's true, it makes me think twice about him as a useful guy for us.

well we just signed dj so i doubt lakers would sign 2 players. webber is no longer a need or an option

With a body full of injuries, almost no explosiveness and athletic ability left, what does anyone expect from him? He simply doesn't have the legs to dunk over people like he used to any more. I still would like to see him here because he is such a great passer and he actually knocks down his midrange jumpers on a regular basis, but I guess with DJ here, he is out of the question.

Webber is such a douche. He only wants to join the Laks when they're all full strength. What a loser. Well when the Laks get healthy, they won't need his old a55. Don't come begging to join, when the Laks start to dominate again when Bynum returns.

Two 10 contracts for DJ and no trade by Chicago before the deadline and PJ Brown may reconsider his retirement and sign once the huge sign and trade possibility ends.

If Webber came here do you really think that Phil and Kobe would tolerate a statement like that? Kobe would do him the way he did Sean Rooks on the Buss, and Phil Jackson would call him a Pussy. Then Webber would go on a tearful rant, throw his jersey on the floor, roll around like two year old the way he did in Sacramento with the Media, and go take his spot down in the post.

Trust me, Phil Jackson makes what he makes for a reason. If he can handle Rodman, he can handle Webber.

At this point, we just need healthy bodies. We are so depleted.
Frankly I'd rather have a better defender and rebounder at the 5 than someone like Weber who is immobile, won't really rebound or block shots, and has very little left in the tank. C Web is a good piece of the puzzle for a contender that just needs 8-10 minutes off the bench.

You're a moron if you don't think Cwebb can't help the Lakers. Mbenga is great for defense but when you need another scoring option when Fisher, Vujacic, and Waltons shot isn't dropping, and Lamar Odom is curled up in a little ball somewhere in the high post, you mean to tell me you'd rather throw the ball into Kwame than CWebb?

Why do we have to be moron's if we dont like CWebb .

I dont like Webb , I think he is finished and there isnt anything he can contribute to this team .
He is slow and he isnt a team player , very selfish , and incosistant .
Now that's IMO , but then again I think everyone is intitled to their own opinion , RIGHT ?

Why is he so stuck on Detroit? He wants to go there yet they don't want him and we do. He should be here already. It's not to late.

I think he's stuck on Detroit because he lives there and has deep roots there, but I also don't think he's rejecting us. I think he's biding his time.

second_coming32- do think we could use someone like him, and I'm guessing he, in many ways, has more to offer than Mihm, but there is plenty of reason to wonder about things like chemistry on a team that really only needs to be healthy, but likes playing with each other and has good chemistry.

also be careful of the name calling. There's always a more fact driven way to convey your meaning than something that is against website rules.

Heres some facts, he nearly averaged a double double with the pistons last year and the Pistons improved immediately after he joined the Roster. He's a big man that can help us more than Kwame and Mihm can, and I'm not worried about the chemistry they way that Phil and Kobe are running the team.
