Lakers shifting Kobe to small forward
Posted: Thursday January 24, 2008 07:47AM ET
Phil Jackson plans to move Kobe Bryant from guard to small forward in order to give Luke Walton more breaks, leaving Derek Fisher and Jordan Farmar to handle the backcourt. Lamar Odom also might be moved to small forward from power forward.

Hmmm maybe this could work, worth a try. The Lakers wouldnt be the only team with 2 small starting guards, this would only be until Bynum is back anyways.

So we would look like this then:
SF:Bryant
PF:Odom
C:Brown
SG:Farmar
PG:Fisher
Don't really know about this one. I kinda have mixed feelings about this because I would like to see Farmar and Vujacic in the second unit together or maybe we could use this line up for the second unit.
SF:Walton
PF:Radmanovic
C:Turiaf
SG:Vujacic
PG:Crittenton
the forward sopt would be the that I'm worried about

I don't think it's meaning starting lineup wise. If you watch, Kobe plays SF a lot in games.

I think until Bynum gets back, Phil needs to change the starting 5 depending on who the opponent is.
does the team have a low post center? start kwame, no true center? start turiaf.
offense not flowing? put in walton to distribute
and who runs the point on the 2nd unit? crittenton and sasha?

I've been waiting for this for years. Awesome if it happens.

A Fisher/Deron Williams backcourt worked in Utah. With Fishers ability to score then it shouldnt be a problem, not saying Farmar is as good as Williams but I always love the idea of 2 PG's in backcourt.

Wait so Kobe is going to be guarding LEbron on Sunday ? Good Luck with that Kobe . I think Lebron is even bigger and stronger this year than last year. Doesn't sound like a great Idea

It's worth a try but I really dont like it.
With that the bench will look really weak IMO, when you move Farmer into the starting lineup.
Im also not that fond of Fisher guarding 2's even though he did it last year.
But what the hell....

About time. Good move.
And to you guys. Kobe was always playing the 3 in the Tri. That's the wingman and facilitator position. It's just a lineup position name change. haha. Kobe always played 3 to begin with. And LO always played 4. This is a good move.

Same here, but it won't last. Kobe not liking SF is the biggest reason he doesn't play there AFAIK.

PF Odom
SF Kobe
C Kwame
G Javaris
PG Fisher
I would still like Farmar's fire power off the bench. Can Javaris do any worse than Puke?

I just read the article and here's the quote:
"Jackson plans to move Bryant from guard to small forward in order to give Walton more breaks, leaving Derek Fisher and Jordan Farmar to handle the backcourt. Lamar Odom also might be moved to small forward from power forward."
Sounds temporary, even speculative, but I doubt it'll be permanent. The injuries to our 3 small forwards, including a limited Walton, make it necessary for somebody to cover that spot until somebody gets healthy.
But don't rule out Sasha playing in the backcourt as well. At least his shooting ability spaces the floor enough to let Kobe play at the wing.
