is anybody worried about contending in the playoffs this year?

I am not. our team has not really fallen a part. sure we are missing two key peices to injuries, but we are not playing horrible basketball.

even with Lamars inconsistency, Kwames offensive offense, Luke playing like the stuff that comes out of his fathers mouth, Kobe being put on a time out for not playing well with others, and Phils "on the job lesson learning" technics, we are still giving other teams a fight and not giving up.

sure it p****s me off that we lost, but it is not the end of the world. we are making it competitive games with the elite teams and a nail biter with a team that made to finals last year.

all this without our hmmph players. once we get them back we will once again rise. fortunatly/unfortunatly this season it doesn't matter where you land in the seeding. let's keep the spirits up.

look at it this way- at least we are not the Clippers.

I just hope that we go the playoffs because in the crazy west....we might miss the playoffs.....

I mean, Lakers had a winning record when he was in, but theyre at .500 without him.

Just like Odom was the MVP of this team last season.

Lakers had a losing record without him in the lineup, and a winning record with him leading the team and Kobe out.

Record without LO = 12-14 (30-26 with Lamar)

If logic serves me right, Lamar Odom HAD to be the team's most valuable player.

calm down, we will make it. like I said we are not falling apart. we are still competitive enough to beat anybody that is below us in the WC standings. the good news is that we just played a streach against tough teams. from here on we will do better even if its on the road.

My post wasnt exactly serious; more so a sarcastic jab at those who think Bynum is the MVP of this team (see record before his innjury, and after).

I surely dont believe Odom was teh MVP of the team either, btw.

loses to the suns/spurs/mavs aren't very surprising. those were going to be tough even with bynum. losing to the cavs wasn't all taht surprising either. cavs have played the lakers well over the past few years and they were currently on a pretty good hot streak. a loss in the next game will be panic time though.

This way we can go into the playoffs as a sleeper pick. How many eighth seeds have won the whole thing? Let's make some history. This is where our fourpeat starts.

It's not time to panic quite yet... Our last 4 losses have all been against very quality opponents, and we've been competitive in all of them. Our 2-4 record sans Bynum looks worse than it really is IMO.

That said, this upcoming road trip is going to be very telling as to whether we're gonna be fighting for the final two playoff spots when Bynum comes back, or if we're gonna have a spot secured. With the incredible strength and depth of west, I wouldn't be surprised if we fall out of the playoff picture by mid-March and have to steal a spot back.

What I've been doing during this time of the injuries is watching guys like Luke, LO and Kwame. These guys have got to produce.

We know we won't get much from Kwame so be it, but LO and Luke have to be held accountable. Phil said the game wasn't lost on the sequence of Luke not shooting ok he's the pro coach but I know like hell that it had something to do with it.

This is like the second time Luke has pulled that "I'm too scared to shoot" crap, the first time was in New York in 2005. I'm really starting to grow tired of Luke now.

I think you are forgetting what happened last season. This is how everything starts, by coming up short against good teams, and then as the time passes by, the entire team just starts to give in. I think it is definitely time to panic because we are now seeing signs of that team from last season. Odom is playing like a girl; Kobe has to make 0 mistakes while shooting fade away jumpers all night long for the team to win one lousy game; Kwame just seem to get worse every year; Walton the intelligent one forgets to look at the freaking clock when he has the ball; opposing team players making impossible shots...just like last season, anything that can go wrong, will!

People seem to be over confident with our current record that they often ignore how strong the west has become this season. This year, two games above .500 will not give you a playoff spot in the west. With the amount of game left this season and the time it is going to take for Bynum to come back, we are looking at the realistic possibility of missing the playoffs, nevertheless be competitive in the playoffs. If everyone just keeps making excuses and not focus on trying to solve problems, we will end up the exact same position we were in last year.

i pretty much agree with everything snaq said in the original post.

i'm still far from panicing.

are you saying that last years team = this years team?

last year we could not even compete with the below 500. croud at our peak. this year we beat those teams. we are playing better and that will get us a spot in the playoffs.

we haven't lost to the Knicks yet.

A big difference from last years squad and this years squad is Smush and Fisher. Then theirs our bench that's another year older and the acquisition of Ariza. Lakers are a better team than last year.

A healthy Lakers squad had us at title contention.

If we make it in the playoffs healthy and with momentum, even at the 8th seed we will be fine. Before Bynum went down we were playing ball at a championship level. When we are clicking on all cylinders we can beat anybody.

Does the game when Bynum got injured count?

I thought we were 1-4 without him

Im not afraid of missing the playoffs... Im afraid of Bynum not being the same player after he came back.... It will take him a while to get where is was at when he went down... It would be great if he could continue to improve on what he was doing (17, 12 and 2 in January)

Luke was playing great last year then got injured and hasnt been the same since...
