I know Kobe's been singing Bynum's praises all season, but reading this just put a big smile on my face. In the midst of this rough skid, it's great to see Kobe with an attitude like this.

``He developed into the player that I prayed about having on my team for years,'' Kobe Bryant said. ``It just helps out a lot having his consistent numbers. Before he got hurt, he was a consistent 20 (points) and 10 (rebounds). That's what we need. That's what I need. Now he's out of the lineup. We've got to figure out a way to kind of balance that out a little bit.''

Bryant said teams had a tough time matching up with the Lakers when Bynum was in the lineup.

Praise for Bynum and I think in a way a slap at Odom. Not directly but he talked about this is what I needed.

In a way I think Kobe made Bynum into the player he is now... Ironically, I think it was the:

1) Ship his ass out video and
2) The "get help and get it now" speech

that made Bynum work as hard as he did this offseason.... Bynum knew that if he OR Kobe was to be traded that it wasnt gonna be Andrew's fault...

It is amazing how good a Kobe team with a REAL 2nd option can be.

IMO there was a lot more to it.

I think people are underscoring all of the Greg Oden hype and the impact it would have on Bynum. Now this is just speculation, but I know before the draft if someone even bothered to mention Bynum's name along with Oden it was almost like a joke. Now, it's a very interesting debate.

If Bynum had any sort of competitive spirit in him, he'd probably want to shut all of these people up, and prove he's the top young big. I think Bynum was looking in the rear-view mirror.

Also it's no secret that he hit his "rookie" wall last season, so I don't believe just because Kobe had a press conference and a bootleg video rant made Bynum do that much more than he already knew he needed to do. Besides the "ship his ass out" comment came out much later in the summer, when Bynum was already working out. When Kobe went in to talk to Mitch about it, Bynum was working hard right downstairs.

Of course we'll never know, but it seems like Bynum has always had the right attitude. Last season, though, he was unprepared for his role because of Mihm and Kwame's injuries. He went from thinking he had another year to come in slow to starting more games than he played in the year before. That's a big adjustment.

I think it was more natural maturity and necessity that's made Bynum work hard, but that's just my two cents.

Agree, I remember when I posted this "some" of you bashed me for saying this. But, it's the truth and you need to deal with it.

I agree 100% , and lets not forget he's almost up for his contract .
Big payday .
That alone gets any player motivated .

Well no one should have bashed you,because micheal thompson cleared this up last month on am570. He said bynum told him that kobe's remarks made him work that much harder. No one is giving kobe all the credit but a person would have to be crazy to think kobe's comments didn't motivate bynum in a positive way.

I think its a slap on Odoms face..for not being consistant.....as a 3rd option he avg 13.something and as a 2nd option he is avging something like 11.somthing...rebounds are down too....

We got bounced last year on May 2. This video didn't become public until, what, the middle of June? By that timeline, Andrew must have just been sitting around on his ass for six weeks, then got motivated to fly out to Atlanta and hire a personal trainer after the news broke that he'd been roasted by the team's franchise player.

What we know:

1. We need Bynum and Kobe, along with the majority of our team, healthy
2. With health = possible WCF
3. Bynum = 2nd option and Kobe likes it
4. Odom = disappointment

nothing new, but again, still pretty nice to hear from Kobe

A 20-10 guy doesn't have this kind of impact. I'd say more like 20-12. The margin of error without Bynum is so small it ain't even funny. Heck, we had the benefit of a leaky roof(which allowed us to rest Kobe a little more) and still couldn't win.

IMO, Phil made a big mistake of messing with the lineup when it was up by 10. First, putting Kwame in, then taking him out so soon(this is why Ronny is not a starting center, play him for too long and eventually his deficiencies show.) Guys need time to get into a rhythm, and if you're going to put him in, then leave him in. Otherwise, don't put him in in the first place. I thought that whole sequence kind of threw everything out of whack.

But like I said, without Bynum, the margin of error is just extremely small.
