Why can't we go after Richard Jefferson?

I know this may have been discussed here already, but why haven't we pursued RJ via trade? I know he has three years and $43 left, but RJ would be a great third wheel with Kobe and Bynum. If, and I know thats a BIG if, but if we could get him without dealing Odom or Farmar or Bynum, that would be a coup. Imagine a starting lineup of Farmar, 24, RJ, Odom, Bynum!
If that contract is such an albatross for NJ, then why don't we take it? There are worse deals in the NBA than 3/43. I think we could use RJ a heck of a lot more than we could use Kidd. Any chance NJ would take expiring contracts and picks for RJ?

I've been saying this for some time now. We don't necessarily need kid; although he would make us better, not as much as if we were to somehow acquire Richard Jefferson. The guy is a beast, he's a legit number 2 option and he has a ton of upside.
For Richard Jefferson I would surrender Odom, Brown, and Farmar. I'd ride out Fisher for the next two years and by then Critt should be ready to take over the point. For the next two years we'd have
PG Fish / Critt
SG Kobe / Sasha
SF Jefferson / Ariza / Walton
PF Turiaf / Sun Yue?
C Bynum / Mark Gasol?
We'll pick up some big man mop up for the MLE during the off season and have a solid bench. The Lakers will be contending for some time to come without having to mortgage the future.
Of course added to the intrigue is the pipe dream that maybe Jermaine Oneal or Elton Brand opt out and decide they want to play for a championship, signing for the full MLE next season......one could hope anyway.
The point is simply this....Jason Kidd is a short term fix, Richard Jefferson (if attainable) would be a short and long term fix. Jason Kidd is not worth giving up Farmar, Jefferson is.

NJ isnt going to let him go, especially with the news that Kidd and his agent have talked to their FO to be traded. VC and Kidd are the ones that will be on the block.

Agreed.
He's the youngest and has the best contract.
However, the suitors list for Carter is short and even tho trading Kidd is likely at this point, nobody in N.J. really seems to want to.
So trading R.J. for Odom would make sense for N.J. if they want a last ditch effort to give Kidd a shot.
Odom would give them some rebounding and size and their age difference is pretty much a wash.
Not to mention, Odom's contract runs out a year quicker than RJ's.
Just a thought...again, not likely but its something to think about.

The LO experiment is Done... I woulod ship his ass out for the following deals in order:
1. RJ or VC (he will step up).
2. Harrington & Pietrus (aggressive young players).
3. Nocioni and Smith (hard nosed SF and vet PF).
IMO all three deals mnake us better and are realistic (excluding maybe RJ)... Other pieces may have to be involved but the salaries are very close... One piece away...

obviously u know nothing about the laker squad if u have Sun Yue as a Power Forward

We used to be able to get him for Odom, now it would cost Odom and Critt at least. This is a deal that can be done that makes sence that makes both teams better. Mitch is horrible when it comes to trades which is why he doesn't have the forsite to see RJ as the perfect Pippen to Kobe.

im telling you guys, Josh Smith is who we should be going after, not Jefferson. He is a beast, not RJ. I'd give the Hawks Odom, or who ever outside of Kobe & Bynum(Yes that includes Farmar, and Crittenton)

EDIT. In my scenario Kwame Brown and Lamar Odom are gone, I can't imagine we're going to excercise the option with Chris Mihm, leaving us with Turiaf and Bynum as the only serviceable big men. Sun Yue will be in training camp this summer and if we want to upgrade from him, obviously we'd have to go after another big man in the free agent market. Get your facts straight before you start questioning fans intelligence.
EDIT....

Stop the personal attacks. And to clarify, Mihm has a player option.

WHo? Pippen to KOBE ............
The last thing we need is having Lukes Boyfriend on the same team .
I mean he doesnt even know the shot clock is expiering , imagine what his going to do with R.J on the bench .

He'll definaty will lose focus then .
