Old Kwame

I think it's easy to pick on Kwame, but I thought I'd add my two cents because his situation is a little bit more complex than the average, superficial fan would even care to know. There are clearly reasons for his decline. It's terrible luck that he ended up getting drafted first (but if you look at that draft class, names like Curry and Chandler pop out, and Kwame was definitely the best amongs those three by miles back then). Jordan (by all accounts a notorious jerk and terror for his own teammates-especially the scrubs) expected him to come in and be Tim Duncan right away. Look at some of the others from that team who've ended up "busting" like Larry Hughes, Courtney Alexander. MJ and his b**ch Doug Collins routinely hazed this kid. Who knows what would have happened eventually to Rip if MJ wasn't dumb enough to trade him. All I'm saying is that Kwame suffered quite a bit of damage and didn't get along with his teammates (one so-called Agent 0, quite an irritating personality in his own right). Then when Kwame came here, he was expected to play center with the perennial non-player Chris Mihm on the IR. He was told to mainly provide rebounding and post defense (which he normally excels at). Thus, Kwame is playing out of position, suffered major injuries to both ankles, knees, along with a broken foot (resulting in a huge loss in explosiveness). I don't think he ever properly recovered (as you can see in his increased weight). Of course, all of this is compounded further by his lack of motivation to get into shape. I've seen Drew grow up since the 5th grade (lived down the street) and I can tell you that Kwame has a better natural feel for the game on the offensive end. Bynum took a huge step this past summer (mainly got into shape)and has learned quite a bit from Kareem and he's clearly surpassed Brown. This summer could be a huge turning point for Kwame as well if the organization essentially tells that they'll only sign if resurrects his shape. He's only 26 (although an old 26). Everyone who sums up Kwame with inane statements like "kwame sucks" or "kwame is the worst ever NBA player" are either too young to make arguments, have no real clue about professional basketball in this country, or just are stupid (for lack of a better word).
