bucher is on espn news right now talking about the gasol trade and he mentioned that a big motivation for the lakers (like they needed any) was that bynum's return could take longer than the two months, possibly the entire season. any news on that?

Bucher speculating as usual. Even Bynum himself doesn't know, because bodies can be highly unpredictable things. Even if the swelling is still there, as long as there isn't any structural damage, any additional time he may take is irrelevant in the long run. As long as he's ready for the playoffs, and as long as the Lakers make the playoffs, this is officially a contending team 1-12.

^ Remember, MRI showed no structural damage, i.e. no tendon or cartilage damage.

sit him out until late March...bring him back final 12 games of the year to get back in rhythm and get his energy...we don't even travel that much with four games on the road, 3 still in California...

I'm going to be honest, there's not exactly going to be a dropoff replacing Bynum with Pau. We're going to be as good as we were with Bynum. Now when Bynum returns, we're going to have a 2-headed frontcourt monster.

Somewhere in Toronto, Kobe just bust a nut.

Honestly, I wouldn't bring him back until there's just one week left. He can use the playoffs to get into shape. With Gasol, we can beat every team in the West, even if Bynum is not in tip-top shape.

Bynum did an interview during the Knicks game and said he'll probably be able to make the 8-week cutoff. Don't listen to that lunatic Bucher, he's just trying to be pessimistic about the Lakers after his horrible dealings with the Kobe ordeal during the summer.

The thing is that this will help stave off not having Bynum, but it will really pay off when he comes back.

PG: Fisher
SG: Bryant
SF: Odom
PF: Gasol
C: Bynum

That is a damn good starting five. 2 through 5 all can post up their man, Odom and Bryant can drive all day, and Fisher just hangs around playing D and hitting jumpers. This team could be scary if Bynum comes back strong.
