Utilizing Odom with the Bigs

I know there has been a small discussion of this in another thread somewhere, but that it was significant enough to merit a seperate thread. Some people see us trading him. The triangle needs to be operated by a versatile 3 (which I believe is why we have such a high threshold for dealing him, in addition to his contract). With a healthy lineup (bynum and gasol), I wouldn't be surprised to seem him finally start racking up triple doubles that he's natrually meant to do. What are you thoughts folks?

racking up?

hmm I would say maybe few a season, nothing close to loosing count of LO's tripple doubles.

The best way we could utilize Odom is to send him packing and bring in a defensive specialist at SF that can hit the occasional wide open shot. Outside of that, I really don't think Odom fits, at least not in the starting lineup. He would actually do better coming off the bench which looks to run much more.

^ agreed 100%.

It's amazing how a guy like Gasol, who should fit perfectly in triangle with Kobe and Bynum, is the one we finally pull the trigger for...where as Lamar, who for years has been miscast in the triangle, has yet to be traded.

In one sense it's like there's almost reason to their madness...but then Lamar is still here. I guess they're just half crazy.

Perhaps over the summer another move is made.

Dont know about racking up triple doubles, he has to score over 9 points to do that!

sorry but odom isn't going to be rebounding much or scoring as much... his biggest asset will probably become assists and moving the ball. His other attributes wont work with the triangle and even more so now that he no longer is pressured to be aggresive... i saw we ship him before his value goes down when he start averaging 5pts/3boards/5 assists per game. Maybe a team that needs someone to assist might want him... that could be suns or houston... would love marion, but probably a pipe dream and i dont know if battier will be much better

I think Odom's numbers are limited but they shouldn't be. He can't guard 3's but who cares if they blow by him all day, we have 2 7 footers who both block shots right there.

The best way to utilize Lamar Odom's all-around gifts will be the way Phil Jackson will use them.

Lamar Odom was originally discussed in the talks between the Lakers and Memphis, according to an NBA source.

However, Memphis owner Michael Heisley, who has had the team up for sale for years and is projecting a $20-million loss this season, predicated everything on knocking as much money as he could off his payroll in this deal.

With Odom making $13.2 million this season and $14.1 million next, Heisley told his basketball people he didn't want him.

In reality we actually made out better. Maybe. If LO had been dealt then we would have still had Kwame's expiring. We'll see how it works I guess.
