Has there ever been a C/PF combo this good?

Post#1 » by Dexmor » Sat Feb 2, 2008 5:04 pm

I am trying to think and the only one I can think of is Hedo and Howard. Do we have the best C/PF combo ever plus Odom and Kobe at the 2/3? Damm. I used to play live and trade players because this team discussed me (parts of it like Kwame) but not no more.
Seriously can anybody name a better C/PF combo? Maybe next year Oden and Aldridge but that is about it.

Here is a few better PF/C combos IMO:

Duncan/Robinson
Sampson/Olajuwon
Parrish/Mchale
Barkley/Olajuwon
Sabonis/Sheed
Larry Johnson/Mourning

Yes in fact there's one across the hall, Brand/Kaman.

Barkley and Hakeem didn't work out.
Robinson was not a star once Duncan came
Sabonis and Sheed? Don't think so.
LJ literally slept with Zo's wife which is kind of a diaster if you ask me

Kaman and Brand yeah. Forgot that one. I like ours better though.

Kaman/Brand is really good considering how well kaman is playing, but it doesnt matter... our backcourt is also top of the league because of kobe and fisher aint bad either. Clippers can't compete outside the C/PF

Since they haven't played a game and we won't know how Bynum will recover, let alone how they'll gell together, you must mean on paper, right?

Did you seriously mean to put the word "ever" in the title?

In addition to what El Hardee wrote, may I add;

Kareem and Mickey Mouse?
Shaq and Malone? And, please, don't tell me that Malone got injured because there is nothing that says Pau or Bynum won't.

Please, Kalel, this is your third new thread this morning. If you don't stop this, I'll give you a warning. We're not against new threads, in fact, a message board is nothing without them, but please make sure to have at least some substance in it.

I'm locking this as soon as it gets the least bit ugly.

Although Brand/Kaman is better what makes us so special is we also got one of the best benches in the leauge, probably the greatest coach of all time, a qaulity veteran in DFish, a near allstar double double guy in Odom, oh and a guy by the name of Kobe Bryant who they say is the best in the leauge.

No one has heard of a front line consisting of Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish before? 80s Celtics had the best front line ever.

If you just want to talk about talent, how about when the Warriors paired up Wilt Chamberlain and Nate Thurmond? Both HOFers.

To answer the question: No. Not even close at this point.

We have a terrific front line, but not best ever.

Before Wilt got traded in 64-65, he averaged 38.9 points and 23.5 rebounds for the Warriors. Thurmond (in his second year in the league) chipped in 16.5 points and 18.1 rebounds. The pace was a lot higher of course, but having the guys who ranked 2nd and 4th in the league in rebounding is pretty sweet. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the project never panned out like they had hoped.

Don't get me wrong Bynum was doing very good, but the kid isn't the greatest, and definitely isn't close to the likes of other twin tower tandems. Gasol is great in his own right, but not even that superstar caliber either himself.

Hakeem/Sampson
Duncan/Robinson

Are a couple that aren't mentioned.

So talent wise Bynum/Gasol are nowhere close to a top, PF/C tandem "ever". However, defensively they might struggle, and ultimately the game isn't played PF/C vs. PF/C. This entire team is loaded and Kobe won't take this for granted, he can assure you that, rather than understanding how this co-exists, Kobe will make it work and it'll be a lot of fun to watch however I want to see how Odom works....I think at SF isn't a bad idea, but people tend to go against that. I know Phil may be a huge fan of that.

I'm not going to commit to that for this year, (Bynum's injury is still a big question) but I think our future looks pretty darn good.

i think its a little early to be comparing Bynum to those greats. Im sure in time he will be great but as of now, you can't compare him to Hakeem, or Shaq, or Duncan, Robinson, are you kidding me???

Parish / McHale / Bird is the best frontline ever to play the game.

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
