WIRETAP: Popovich Speaks Out About Gasol Trade

Post#1 » by Tommy Trojan » Sat Feb 9, 2008 6:24 am

Memphis GM Chris Wallace challenged all executives who are speaking out against the Pau Gasol trade to do so on record, and according to Sports Illustrated, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich did just that on Friday night.

"What they did in Memphis is beyond comprehension," said Popovich. "There should be a trade committee that can scratch all trades that make no sense. I just wish I had been on a trade committe that oversees NBA trades. I'd like to elect myself to that committee. I would have voted no to the L.A. trade."

When told that Wallace had challenged executives to criticize the deal publicly, Popovich replied, "Well, there you go. I'm on the record."

I'd be pissed too if it was a rival getting away with robbery.

Imagine Phx getting Gasol without giving Marion, Amare, Nash, Hill, or Barbosa. Would you be pissed? Or the Spurs without giving Duncan, Manu, Parker, Bowen.

Boo hoo.....

It was a sweet deal for us.. but MEM got...

Cap Space
Young talent ( Critt and Gasol)
Pics ( 2 firsts)

Its not like MEM's criteria were not meant and they shouldnt have to aplogize to GM's.

How come he wasnt on a trade commitee when VC was traded to the Nets?...Etc..
Cheers. — Mags

pop can have that committee if... we can make a committee that is allowed to go back in time and punish teams for purposely tanking to get the number one pick.

Memphis got what they wanted they could care less about what he thinks. He just wants his team on top and we know good things never last forever.

I remember that really well. SA somehow got the number one pick, while still having David Robinson on the team. They were a pretty good team when they landed that number one pick and picked Duncan with that.

I was pissed when they drafted Tony Parker in the second round and he turned out to be a finals MVP. I was pissed when David robinson got hurt and they go the #1 pick and drafted tim duncan. Thats the NBA for you.

Oh STFU Greg. I use to think you were a classy guy, but man CRY ME A RIVER you stop your bitching. I think you are letting your age get to you old man. Don't be mad because nobody cares to watch your boring ass Spurs.

Idiot thinks we are the only team in the NBA that ever benefited from a trade. I can list out many one sided trades and for the record our trade was NOT one sided old fart.

- What about when we traded Shaq?
- What about when we traded Butler for Kwame?
- What about when Golden State traded Dale Davis for Baron Davis?
- What about the KG trade?

Where was your stupid old ass asking to veto those trades above?

Memphis got a big expiring in Kwame in case you can't get that in your old head. They also got a future all star PG in Javaris Crittenton, a nice young Gasol and a couple first round picks. In case you didn't know, Gilbert Arenas, Monta Ellis, Carlos Boozer, Manu, Nick Van Exel were 2nd round picks. Guys such as AK47, Josh Howard, Tayshuan Prince, Kevin Martin, Maxielle, Gerald Wallace, including your very own Tony Parker were all drafted late 1st rounds. So do not talk as if Memphis did not get any talents in return.

Stupid Hater. Go get a life.

And when a team tanks its games and ends up with Duncan we can void that too? Or does Popycrap want complain only when it hurts his team. There is a reason the NBA has the lottery.

According to his logic, I would have to think that a team who has their best player injured for long period of a season should not get a number one pick. It is not fair for a potential contender like Spurs to get Tim Duncan just because David Robinson injured himself. Shall we fix the order of the draft based on the overall valuation of their talent level instead of using the pingpong balls? What a hypocrat.
