Phil Jackson on ESPN radio this morning, talking Laker ball

Post#1 » by Tommy Trojan » Tue Feb 12, 2008 8:15 pm

Listening to Phil Jackson on ESPN radio while going to school this morning.

Just briefly I want to share what he said.

He said he knew about the Gasol trade for few weeks, but he kept a secret from Kobe. Outside of the Buss family and Mitch along with Phil he said no one else knew in the Laker organization.

Then he was asked how will the Shaq trade affect the Lakers?

Phil replied: we have confidence in our guys and we will stick to our game plan. He was asked if he had to choose on facing the Suns with or without Shaq?

Phil said if Bynum is healthy I want to face them with Shaq. If Bynum can not give us the 100% I would rather face Phoenix with Marion.

i think what he meant to say, was that they kept it from Kobe till it was an actual deal. He also said that him and Jeanie Buss talk about the Lakers late at night while in bed.

I like Bynum where he is, I think it'd be easier to pull gasol further away from the basket. Don't have Bynum too far away from the rim. He cleans up the glass like he was windex.

Im guessing Phil wants to pull Bynum from the key when they are playing the suns when Shaq is guarding him so Pau can go to work on Amare. Phils plan the last two years has been to to go at amare because he is undersized but Kwame couldnt score. Now he has the man power to abuse amare on the offensive end so he wants to clear Shaq out of the lane by making Bynum play on the wing alittle bit more. Genius!!!! Chalk up 30 points for Pau against an undersized amare.

I'd rather be pick and rolling Bynum and Kobe/Fisher against Nash/Hill/Bell and Shaq. That would bring Shaq out of the paint and out of the picture. force Amare to recover and defend the paint. Leaving Gasol open on the other side for a rebound or pass and slam.

how sick is that going to be on pick and rolls with Kobe and Bynum/Gasol?

Sasha Vujacic = The Phail Machine = The Ring Blocker

Trade Sasha before he ruins the Lakers next season.

With Phil's bad hip, he probably has game like Kwame in the post. Probably fumbles the ball before he can take it to the hole.

Come on. Give Phil some credit. Don't confuse Phil with Kobe. Kobe's the bitch in the relationship if you ever did see him and V together.

Goes backdoor on the penetration drive and puts it in with a reverse 360 left handed...

Wait, what?

i too dont like shaq being in the middle, without bynum. same shaq as before? no. same stamina? nope. same leaping ability. no.

but he still has the weight. and power on the inside. in that area, he is still strong. pull him from the basket, now we're in business.

but he has most of his ability and strength at the net. and we need bodies to pull him out of there, or to battle and get him runnin the floor on the Defensive end.

That is awesome because it sounds like Phil will be starting Bynum, he knows how dominate Bynum is. One thing he doesn't have to worry about is them adjusting because Gasol is money from 15 feet. Actually with his weight he would probably be better health wise to be mostly a midrange jump shooter with open dunks and down in the paint when the really need a basket or there is a 6'7 player on him.
