George (Decatur, GA): How did Kobe Bean Bryant end up in the three point shooting contest? Typo?
SportsNation John Hollinger: (3:36 PM ET ) i think he might surprise some people -- his %s are poor because so much of what he does is off the dribble rather than catch and shoot. If the finger is healed he might do really well. Along those lines, the Laker people were saying last week that he routinely makes halfcourt shots in practice ... lefthanded.

Yeah I heard he and Tim Duncan had a bet that he wouldn't make that shot during all star practice last season and Kobe won the bet. The bet was something like 200 bucks btw!

Can't forget the three point fade away left hand he did on the Mavs, that was cool too, no one would have the guts to even try it in a real game like him.

The funny thing is he did it left-handed alright, but ONE-HANDED. He didn't even use the right hand at all. Wtf? It was kinda scary seeing him compose himself, lock onto the basket, and control his body movements from halfcourt. I don't even want to think how many times he practiced that.
That's the thing, people are hating on Kobe's chances, but the truth is that most of these 3-point shooters are spot-up role players. They shoot a lot of open threes, they're specialists. Kobe shoots his threes off the dribble with the shot clock running down, he shoots it under duress, etc.
This is just practice for him. Thing is, he practices harder than everybody. Also, this guy is ridiculously strong for a guard. He can shoot 40 times in a real game, contested. Shooting these shots in rhythm without dribbing, without having to break down opponents? Come on.
Also, pressure won't have an effect on him. Some guys, the pressure gets to them. Kobe? Nah.
I don't think his finger will bother him that much, but if it does, I can see him doing this left handed, just to show off in a general way. In fact, I can see him pulling a rack to halfcourt, losing the contest, but showing everybody he could make halfcourt shots with his left hand, therefore upstaging the contest itself.
Or, after he misses an entire three racks, I could see him dunking the last two.
