When we see Kobe/Pau play togheter....you think that they have been playing for a while....passes, cutting....everything looks so easy....

Pau's got a better offensive skill set, better fundamentals and better all-around basketball IQ than Lamar.

Gasol has a better post game than Odom. It's the same arguement as to why Kobe plays better with Bynum than Odom as well.

Odom has to play facing the basket, attacking the basket. Does that mean I wanna get rid of Odom, Hell no... not at this point. good insurance if (God forbid) something happened to Kobe.

Kobe never even ran pick and rolls with Odom like he did with Gasol.

The Kobe Gasol pick and roll is deadly.

Odom isn't as atheletic as Bynum, Ariza, Turioff, and Gasol is just a way better player. Odom can't finish well off of Kobe's passes because he tends to take the ball to the rim pretty weak with layups, so he gets stuff sometimes like Walton. Odom like to take 3 point shot which he is not good at, but he can create his own shots and is streaky at times, so it doesn't really compliment Kobe.

Kobe can get the players quality shots but u have to finish strong, or be a good shooter like Fisher, Farmar, and Sasha. Odom is decent at everything but just not good enough at one thing.

Odom is very good at making good passes during broken plays. He's also good at rebounding and going for the coast-to-coast left layup. He's also good at hitting jump shots when he's in rhythm.

Unfortunately, our offense doesn't accommodate most of his strengths.

Gasol is playing very well as the offside forward in the triangle. He's perfect for that position offensively due to his ability to hit that midrange shot, his ability to pass off cutters, and his ability to set/slip screens. In short, he's fits the power forward paradigm, which can be maximized in our offense.

The reason Odom hasn't meshed as well with Kobe is that he's not a great halfcourt playmaker (thus preventing Kobe from playing the wing), yet he's not a great wing (due to his lack of a consistent perimeter shot, troubles cutting and playing off the ball), nor is he a reliable post player (unless they're smaller).

But he has the ability to hit the occasional jumper in rhythm, he can make a few layups when the opportunity presents itself, and he can make some nice passes in the friction of the game.

Thus, at the end of the game, Odom frequently ends up with a reasonably productive stat line, despite some people not seeing him as a game changer.

Some people see that as Odom being underrated, some people see that as proof that stats don't tell the entire story.

Two ways of looking at it, but I think it's hard to deny he's playing better since Gasol's arrival.

As an aside, when Odom was first traded to the Lakers, I thought of him as a taller, more athletic Anthony Mason, but he never played in the halfcourt as well, wasn't as comfortable with his back to the basket. Seeing Mike Dunleavy play, I think that's closer to Odom's game in the halfcourt, a versatile tall guard-forward who is reasonably productive but rarely changes the game. I also think Mike Dunleavy wouldn't mesh so well with Kobe.

what sets pau apart from lamar is Basketball IQ, its as simple as that
shaq said "pau would thrive in the triangle" referring to his smarts

He also said he's never had an easy basket from his lead guards in six years or something.

Go figure.
