Jackson admits Kidd to Dallas trade is a big deal
Thursday, Feb 14, 2008 6:48 am EST
It's a trade that would benefit both teams, Los Angeles Lakers Coach Phil Jackson told the Los Angeles Times diplomatically referring to the deal that would send Jason Kidd to the Dallas Maverics.
"I was a Devin Harris fan, so I'm happy to see him in the East, personally," Jackson said of the up-and-coming point guard. "I think they'll miss him, but this is a trade that brings a lot of veteran leadership to Dallas."
The Lakers, for their part, are not expected to make any more moves before next Thursday's trade deadline.
"Unless something knocks us out, for sure," Jackson said.

I think the trade is a fair deal for both teams as they all get what they wanted out of the trade. But for Dallas, it's more like trading defense for offense type of move. It will be interesting to see how their defense turns out to be in the playoffs against teams like Lakers, Spurs, Jazz and Suns.

after seeing what the Mavs are giving up for Kidd's leftovers, it makes me feel even worse for Memphis about the Pau deal.

One less quick PG we have to worry about, which is our biggest weakness...

At first I liked the deal from a Lakers perspective: Dallas dealing its depth and future in Harris, Diop, and the picks, and Stack...
but this whole Stackhouse has already been told he'll be waived and return to Dallas, plus Dallas is stealing Wright for a future 2nd,...
I don't like that at all.

I think this makes them weaker. Like a previous poster said one less quick PG to deal with. I think Kobe could terroize Kidd in a 7 gamer. I mean didnt we see this before with the Net's? I don't recall Kidd doing anything spectacular during that series.

+1 the Mavs are giving up alot, and we gave up nothing for Pau. Mitch has got to have ties to Vito Corleone or sumthin.

the mavs had nash as their pg, and things didnt work out well for them...now theyre getting kidd...IMO nash>kidd, so i dont understand why they would do this deal now?
if i recall correctly, they even had michael finley then.

It's not about which player is better than who individually. It's about which player best fits the system.
Iverson is better than Fisher overall, but I'd rather have Fisher on the current Lakers roster and system.
Just because the Mavericks failed to win with Nash doesn't mean that they're automatically going to fail with any point guard not nearly as good as Nash. You have to factor in so many other variables when it comes to basketball.
If you applied your failed logic to the Lakers, then it sounds even more ridiculous.
Using your logic, the Lakers won't win the championship because Gasol right now is not nearly as dominating as O'Neal was when he was wearing the purple and gold.
See how stupid that sounds?

That was a terrible analogy.
Shaq also wasn't the second best big on our championship teams
