Its not like we are in a positon to have a better opinion then the Lakers, the Medical - Hand Specialist and Kobe himself.

I don't think its about long term health, but more about this season's success. I am fairly certain that a hurt Kobe on his shooting hand won't get us too far in the playoffs.... but on the other hand, if Kobe sits for 6weeks do we even make the playoffs?

Personally I go for Championship or nothing... but it would have been nice for him to take the surgury 1-2weeks ago when it happened.

I cant look to the past on this one. It is what it is... for me, Kobe wouldnt play if he couldnt. Nor would the Lakers want him to. I take my chances ( as what Kobe will do )
missing the playoffs or fighting for an 8th seed , over a pinkie is not accetable, IMO.

He can still be extremly effective and I trust that he knows himself enough to realize this.

Look at Gerald Green. He plays with a nub on his hand. He sucks but he still can play.

It's a pinkie, doesn't affect him too much, though it might at some point in the future if reaggravates the damn thing at the wrong time. Let's hope he does a lot of healing these next 6 days. He shouldn't be shooting at all, just do cardio. Practice his shot early game day Tuesday to get his rhythm back.

Gary Vitti is a genious, so Im sure he will come up with something. Plus, Kobe will probably stay up 72 straight hours doing rehab. :)

I used to think so as well... But how come whenever ANY player on out team goes down theyre are out for longer then the first allotted time span? Why do we have the most injury prone team in the league for, basically, 2 years in a row? Are our trainers not preparing our boys right? Or do we simply have the lease durable team in the league?

Don't know what to think right now. He should sit out the ASG.

Gotta agree with that.

milesfides wrote:If he gets surgery right now, we can steal almost a week because of the All Star Weekend. From there, 5 weeks to stay afloat in the playoff race. Considering Kobe's a fast healer, maybe he'll be back in early march.

With Gasol and Odom, we'll be competitive, and we have plenty of shooters. Hell, let's put in the machine, maybe we wont' even tell the difference!

EXACTLY what I was thinking.

Have the surgery tomorrow, and miss only 5 weeks of actual playing time, maybe only 3 or 4 if he comes back a little early.

I don't mind us not going all the way this year, as I think next year is when we make our real push anyway. Plus, I'd like to see Kobe in the Olypics.

The only real problem is with how competitive the West is, we may very well slide out of the playoff picture if our guys don't play up to their potential. Gasol won't have it as easy, and we already know what a disappointment Odom is as a 2nd option. Fisher won't get those nice open looks either. For those reasons, I'd be a little torn on what decision to make if I were Kobe. While others have stepped up, it's a direct result of Kobe, and losing him for that long will have a major impact on the team as a whole. We can't affort to be a "just above .500" club with how things are shaping up in the West.

So you'd put the Olympics over a playoff run? Seriously?

I agree with you in one respect, in that this team's best years are ahead of it. At the same time, you've only got so many shots at a championship, and we would seem to have as good a chance this season as anybody.

If Kobe has surgery, you can pretty much kiss this year goodbye.

Ronnie Lott cut off his pinkie instead of surgery and did not miss a game. I think Kobe will be fine. It will be harder during the season because of back to back games but the playoffs usually have one day off between games.

screw the olympics... everyone knows usa is the best when they have all their best players on the court... lakers should be his main priority... not making playoffs will be on his shoulder... unlike lebron who can miss 3 weeks with an injury cuz the east sucks... the west is too competitive with teams like Denver, Houston, and GSW only a few games away from lakers and having one of them to miss playoffs... no kobe and no playoffs this year... seriously guys it is way too tough in the west to let kobe miss 6 weeks... we can probably get by with 3 weeks max (4 weeks if he does it today and the all star weekend gives him some buffer)

ive played with a dislocated middle finger. I think Kobe will be okay but it will affect his shooting % even though lately he has been on fire. I could care less about that though, just want him on the floor.

Is it true Bynum's condition has regressed and he wont be back till playoff time? Someone reported that today on 570

you dont really shoot the ball with the pinky... but it does affect dribbling.. handling... will probably result in more turnover... it will mainly affect his shot as it could spike a pain that irritates his motion.
